MOLOKO promises to be the land of milk and honey for Liverpool lovers of the good life, sugar and more than a little spice. This American restaurant-bar-club concept is to be found out on St Peter’s Square, nestled between Fleet Street and Seel Street in the Ropewalks, but you’ll probably hear it before you see it. Inside is a riot of street art, all day brunches inspired by larger than life American gastronomy and hardshakes – that’s booze-spiked milkshakes to you and yours. After sunset, Moloko turns the lights down and the dials up to transform into an essential central Liverpool bar and nightspot.

The good folks behind popular LIverpool spot Blind Tiger have done it again, ditching the dim sum – but keeping the drinks – and taking over promisingly dishevelled St Peter’s Square premises to forge Moloko, an all-day American diner-style brunch restaurant and bar. It’s just down the Ropewalks’ Seel Street from the famous Tiger, and proprietor Peter Kane and his crazily creative team have injected the venue with the same effortless sense of style, although this time it’s all pop art Americana with retro US eats (including baked desserts courtesy of Albion Bakehouse) and milkshakes mutated into nightlife-worthy cocktails.

Taking its name from the infamous albeit fictional bar where Alex and his droogs get pepped for some serious blood on the dancefloor action in A Clockwork Orange, Moloko’s menu of anabolic milkshakes include the Pint of Filth (Oreo and caramel with honey bourbon or banana liqueur), while frozen cocktails like the signature Moloko S’Moretini or the Miami Vice are suitably neon enough for up-for-it Liverpool punters with a taste for the lurid side of life. On the brunch menu at what promises to be the hottest American-style diner-slash- restaurant in the Ropewalks you can find supersized US delicacies like the BBQ salt beef hash glazed with Coca Cola and served with hollandaise or the Elvis favourite of deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
