So, where are the best restaurants in Chester then?

While Chester technically is quite spread out, it’s within the walls of the city centre where the best restaurants in Chester can be found. Kick things off with a classic full English for breakfast around Foregate Street, just a stone’s throw from Grosvenor Park where you can relax and while away the morning while feasting on a meal loaded with fresh and local produce. Then, after a morning exploring the Grosvenor Museum or paying the Cathedral a visit, why not settle in for lunch around Chester Cross. Here, you’ll be privy to a range of cafes and Chester restaurants offering some seriously enticing lunch options. You can take your pick from Indian, Spanish, seafood, Italian or British cuisines, where your plate will be loaded up with some of the tastiest food in the city. For an evening meal, Chester has restaurants throughout the city serving high-end fine dining fare, alongside pocket-friendly spots, so whether you want to round off the day with loup de mer of sea bass served with burnt cauliflower, sweet clams, smoked citrus and fennel, or you’re craving a classic margherita pizza topped with fresh basil and mozzarella, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re after in Chester’s exceptional restaurants.

Get a taste of India in Chester’s restaurants

We’d be remiss to talk about restaurants in Chester, without mentioning one of the most well-loved cuisines in the city – Indian. It’s true yes, that the UK has a thing for curry, and Chester locals are no different. Their love for all things masala, vindaloo and korma has made room for some truly fantastic Indian restaurants in Chester, and if we’re honest, they even rival places in London. One of our favourites is Chester Tandoori, located on Brook Street in the city centre. This Chester restaurant has the perfect combination of well-stocked bar, ideal location and a menu brimming with all the classics you’d expect. You’ll find some of the best tandoori king prawns, chicken chettinad and a life-changing salmon tikka we highly advise you keep an eye out for. Soaked up with a freshly baked garlic naan and washed down with a refreshing tiger beer, well, we can’t think of a better evening if we’re honest.

      Feeling French?

Chester folks are also known to be partial for dishes from across the pond. French food is a favourite in Chester, and restaurants certainly know how to execute an impeccable boeuf bourguignon, that’s for sure. Arguably the most well-known and reputable French restaurant in Chester is Côte Brasserie. This cosy spot has a menu packed with French favourites, and if you’ve a hankering for rump of lamb served with jersey royal potatoes, English asparagus and mint hollandaise, or a superb Breton fish stew brimming with sea bass, mussels, clams, prawns and squid, well, you know where to head then – Bridge Street.

      Homegrown heroes

While we’re all certainly partial to flavours from around the world, there’s nothing quite like the familiar at times. What we mean is, tucking into a steaming Sunday roast packed with beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and mushy peas smothered in gravy, well there’s nothing quite like it – washed down with an ale or two of course. Thankfully for those with a passion for English gastropubs (like us), Chester restaurants are well-schooled in serving up just what the doctor ordered. You’ll find freshly made pies with crusts so golden you’d think you were dreaming, fish and chips cooked to perfection, bangers and mash and of course, the comfort classic, the humble shepherd’s pie... Hungry yet?

It’s time to book your favourite British Chester restaurant then

So, if the above hasn’t got your appetite screaming for a steaming plate of curry, wholesome shepherd’s pie or even thinking about trying out escargot, we don’t know what will. But we’ve only scratched the surface when it comes to the restaurants you’ll find in Chester. So our advice is to take a look at Quandoo and start your journey discovering the best restaurants this historic city has to offer. Trust us, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner! Enjoy!
