Discover local favourites at Derby's restaurants

Look out for classic Derby pyclets (spelt pikelets in everywhere but Derby) on sale at one of the city's cafes. These are traditional flattened crumpets which are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Traditionally served with butter, today's pyclets often come with smoked salmon and stilton, or perhaps a little fine local raspberry jam. However you choose to eat yours, make sure you combine it with a quality hot drink. The restaurants in Derby know how to woo customers with exotic loose leaf tea blends and fresh coffee served by skilled baristas. You'll also find other Derbyshire favourites, such as bakewell tarts and traditional gingerbread, which is best fresh out of the oven.

Derby restaurants to enjoy after the match

If you're heading to the iPro Stadium to watch a match, why not book yourself a table at The Exeter Arms afterwards for a hearty meal? The pub has won multiple awards for its dining experience and it has a cosy atmosphere, original interior and carefully chosen menu, with interesting options such as British tapas and shepherd's pie. Alternatively, the incredible gilded interior of Anoki is well worth experiencing, and the menu offered by this popular Indian restaurant is excellent, with classic dishes such as tikka masala served alongside the more unusual lamb desi. The Forge is also ideal when the weather is good as the venue has a large outdoor courtyard. Burgers are the main attraction on the menu here with over 25 varieties on offer, all made with 100% beef and served with homemade coleslaw. There are plenty of restaurants in Derbyshire that cater for the post-match crowd and which offer a good drinks selection, too, including local beers and ales from micro breweries.

      Derby restaurants and events season

The restaurants in Derby can get particularly busy at peak dining times, weekends, holidays and when there are large events on in the city and the wider area. These include Bloodstock, a heavy metal music festival, Hannell's Darley Park Concert, a classical music celebration, Whooverville for Dr Who fans and the Summer Nights film festival, where classic movies are shown in various outdoor locations. If you're hoping to dine at one of Derby's restaurants at a busy period, then remember to book online with Quandoo up to two hours in advance. It takes just a couple of clicks to reserve your table and avoid the need to queue. Equally, if you’re planning to dine at one of Derby's restaurants with a large group, book in advance and let the booking team know if it's for a special occasion. This gives the venue the chance to make your night one to remember!

Options to suit all budgets with Derby's restaurants

One of the notable things about the restaurants in Derby is their excellent pricing. The city is known for being affordable and this extends to the food and entertainment venues across Derbyshire. If you’re visiting for a weekend then you'll probably find you can afford to eat out in one of Derby's higher-end restaurants, such as Masa, which is housed in a 200-year-old chapel and which holds two AA rosettes. Its menu changes regularly to make the most of seasonal ingredients but look out for its Derbyshire beef dishes which are particularly popular with fine diners. There is also an excellent wine menu.

Share your experiences at Derby's restaurants

Remember to share your dining experiences at the restaurants in Derby with your fellow diners in the Quandoo community. This is also a great starting point as you research your own preferred dining spots in the city. We have plenty of reviews from other passionate foodies who have tried everything from Derby's cosy cafes, such as the BookCafe in the Cathedral Quarter, to Derby's restaurants, such as The Dock's Eatery, which is housed in a listed Art-Deco building, or the Wonky Table Brasserie.
