Great food - really good for nibbles/tasting plates. The wines are good and the service is excellent. You always get a warm welcome here, and the atmosphere is very relaxing.
Fabulous food and service! The atmosphere in the bar is buzzy and vibrant and the downstairs where we ate was quieter and cosy which was lovely as we could actually have a conversation without yelling at each other! We had to wait in the bar for 5 minutes as the table wasn’t quite ready - not a problem at all for us but we were presented with a complimentary glass of Prosecco to compensate! What a lovely touch! The food was excellent and the cheese board, fantastic. We had a wonderful bottle of Primitivo. I’ve worked in London for years so why haven’t I discovered this little gem before?! Can’t wait to return!
Great place lovely food amazing staff and perfect atmosphere will definitely be back. Small unique restaurant very different and food was perfect all little tapas sizes which we all shared very tasty.
Excellent cold meats, cheese, crostini served in pleasant atmosphere by good staff with good wine at a reasonable price. Will go back. Best seats upstairs but downstairs is warm and cosy.
Went to Augustus Harris in a group of 8, and I can say that this is easily one of the best Italian tapas restaurants I have ever been to in London. The menu is simple but perfect and the Italian house wine is wonderful. It's also great value - not what you expect in the heart of Covent Garden. The waiting staff were great - attentive - and a special mention goes to Tony who looked after us really well, and even gave me a sample of the cheese that I loved so much to take home :)
Ambience was good and tables downstairs quite intimate. Was unsure of the food choices as one needed to understand a bit about the cuisine on offer. To describe it, I suppose it is a bit like Italian cheese tasters in the Spanish tapas style. Plenty of cheese! The table next to us had ordered the meat platter and cheese board and their salad looked very fresh. We shared the cheese platter and the smoked salmon and had the tiramisu. The carafe of merlot was plenty for two people. Although the food was exceptionally fresh and of good quality, the bill was possibly a tad pricey. £63 for the two of us. Full marks to the establishment for not automatically adding the usual 12-1/2 percent service charge. We like to choose whether to leave a tip, not be told. In this case, service was quick, polite and pleasant. Would we go again? Yes, but need to be mindful of the type of food served here. A light lunch perhaps as opposed to a heavy meal. Probably perfect for pre-theatre light bites.
Augustus Harris is a lovely bar serving delicious, good quality italian cicchetti, along with lovely cocktails and wines. The staff were just the right amount of attentive and the place was clean and welcoming. It didn't receive 6/6 only because 1) it was a little too warm downstairs, 2) the tables were slightly too close together and 3) it was really not cheap!
Excellent pre theatre wine bar for very tasty mouthfuls of Italian meats and cheeses with a small but well chosen wine list starting at around £24 for the house wines. The groundfloor bustling bar, offers seating for about a dozen covers, whilst downstairs caters for larger parties. We have visited several times over the past two years and service is always friendly and attentive. We always book for the early evening slot and notice many 'walk ins' are turned away so suggest reservations for the pre-theatre rush. This is a haven of good value in the rip-off Covent Garden scene.
The stuffed dates are one of the best things I've ever eaten! Extremely high quality ingredients cooked with care. Augustus Harris has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and in my opinion is a bit of an unsung hero in the Covent Garden restaurant scene
Augustus Harris is in the perfect spot for a quick bite after a show being just opposite the Theatre Royal. We had just enough time to pop in and enjoy a cheese board for supper. Cheese, wine and staff all excellent
