Lovely staff but food really below par. I had actually booked a different restaurant in Lancaster but they were courteous enough to ring me and let me know in advance there was a 3 course Valentine menu that night - I was dining with my 18 yr old son on a visit to Lancaster Uni so cancelled that booking - checked the Butcher & Tonic website and not a mention of Valentine’s Day so went ahead and booked. When we arrived we were given a ...... you guessed it ...... 3 course set Valentine menu - i requested the a la carte menu as we only wanted main and was told they were only serving the set. Shortly after another table arrived and asked if they could order main only and were told that was fine. I queried that with our lovely waitress and she said “they know the owner”. None of that would have mattered much if the food had been good but it just wasn’t. The tarka dahl was dry and bland served with soggy naan. My salmon was overcooked so was also dry and was served with overcooked rice. The dessert was really not good - “honeycomb” was in fact burnt toffee and the cheesecake was nice in parts until you hit a big unstirred bit of cream cheese.
Good friendly attentive staff , good service and good food . Had a perfect valentines evening out .
Lovely food and great customer service from the server. Thanks
