There are great Italian restaurants all over London, and in Holborn you’ll find one of the best. Bacco Restaurant & Wine Bar on Red Lion Street provides a menu with authentic Italian dishes served up in a refined and stylish atmosphere. Bacco has also been awarded by the Italian chamber of commerce as being one of the best Italian restaurants in the UK, and is quality approved by Ospitalita Italiana. Their location – between Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations – is perfect for a pre-theatre meal in the West End, and those who venture into Bacco will be met by a selection of classics. Begin with a starter such as marinated raw Sicilian red prawns or aubergine parmigiana before moving onto a homemade pasta dish. There are Italian meat and fish dishes – monkfish fillet with San Daniele ham and Sicilian couscous, roasted pigeon breast, rib-eye steak in Chiantigiana sauce – and plenty of wines to keep you going. Book a table and head to Bacco for a classic Italian experience in London.
It’s a couple of years since I first went to Bacco and I’d forgotten how good it is. Exceptional Italian food and really excellent, friendly service. We went at lunchtime and were given a choice of nicely situated tables. The menu provides lots of choice and there’s an excellent wine list. Everything was well presented and tasty. I will certainly visit again.
Although we really enjoyed the food the service was not good. A waiter managed to tip a cocktail drink all over my husband's shirt and trousers. At the restaurant we had to ask at least twice for the waitress to bring and then pour our wine. Disappointing as we had very good service last time we visited and I had chosen this venue for my husband's 50th birthday.
Great looking restaurant with attentive staff. Food was nice just a little too much. Too much fiddling with ingredients where the scallop risotto has pools of what looked / tasted of marie rose sauce? The portion sizes were too big (!) ginormous in fact which took away from the quality and delicacy of the food. Less is more -
Food had reasonable flavours in decent setting. I felt that the main course on the set menu was a rather diminutive portion. It seemed focus was on Christmas parties.
