About Bar 61
The award-winning, Spanish-influenced Bar 61 Restaurant is a household name in London’s Lambeth. Located on Streatham Hill, this is a charming spot to indulge in famously good tapas and Spanish delicacies (the menu here is dominated by Iberian cuisine), Italian, and French, too. While the genuinely epic selection is for most the star attraction here, you can’t overlook the effort that Bar 61 puts in when it comes to service. Bar 61 is a father-and-son-run outfit, and the duo and their team pride themselves on bringing a personal touch to their business. Its paid off – most guests come to Bar 61 recommended by friends. Lambeth’s Bar 61 is chiefly known for its Spanish tapas menu. It’s a list unbelievably long, with small plates lovingly prepared using a huge range of quality ingredients. The tapas alone are suitable for a main meal shared between friends, and people flock here from all over London just for that, but the full offering doesn’t end there. Starters, soups, pasta dishes, chicken specialties, meet a fish menu prepared with fresh fish delivered daily to Bar 61’s Streatham Hill premises; and that isn’t even the middle. Bar 61 are also known for their veal specialities, such as the mouth-watering, Italian-style escalope Milanese – fried veal escalope with spaghetti – a popular contender.
Alla griglia (grills) are another Bar 61 specialty, and all the dishes here are prepared using prime Scotch beef: sirloin, fillet, T-bone. Then there’s the Italian carni (meats), again prepared using Scotland’s and a variety of traditional methods. And while Bar 61 is one of Lambeth’s most popular restaurants – the bustling, convivial atmosphere itself is enough to recommend it – many treat Bar 61 like a gelateria and can’t resist stopping by for a cone of classic chocolate or lemon sorbet when they’re up Streatham Hill. Bar 61 garners rave reviews from all parts of London, and they’re proud to be able to say that their casual canvassing of unfamiliar faces reveals that it’s their reputation that gets first time customers through the door. Let us recommend you book a table now.
Friendly and charming service in an authentic Tapas bar. The octopus and and garlic prawns were particularly good. Good selection of wine. It cost around £35pp for a large selection of tapas and plenty of wine.
Went there with some friends and we were not disappointed. Lovely service, exceptional food at a very affordable price. I totally recommend this restaurant! Truly Spanish tapas and wine!
Excellent service, excellent food and a great atmosphere. This is really a great restaurant and I will visit them again. The Tapas is excellent and we had great service.
So lovely，welcome，and delicious with so many food in a cheep price. I d Prefer giving 100 to it. And If someone wanna have a birthday celebration here，they will serve you candle，birthday song and free fruit with house wine.
We were brilliantly well looked after but a generous and hospitable waiter. He gave us sound advice about the number of dishes for Tapas to prevent us from ordering too many and spending too much. He reassured us that if the wine was not to our liking he'd change it. And we were given complimentary fruit and liquor at the end. The décor is old school. I'd change that. The food was solid without being spectacular, though the calamari rings were superb. It was great value for money and a wonderful experience. We'd definitely go back. And this time we might take the kids.
Fantastic service with the friendliest staff I think i have ever met. Very sociable and the food- oh it was soooo good! Dont be fooled by the small tapas meals seriously it fed 6 people well enough with a veriety of dishes. Tapas not your cup of tea? Theres always main pasta courses and a lovely surprise if its your birthday on that day too! All in all a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend Bar 61 to someone who wants to try something different for a change.
the owner and his team were incredible, giving me and my girlfriend the best service in London I've ever had. They organized a surprise birthday for her swiftly upon my mention of it. Simple and cosy atmosphere, which I recommend to all! The prices are very honest and the food is deli shoots. Have a go at the impressive variety of tapas, the local dish :) I will very certainly go back.
The TripAdvisor reviews for this restaurant are all you need to see to know what you're in for. Lovely decor and atmosphere, very friendly staff, and absolutely fantastic food. Large portions, and every dish just tasted fantastic. We shared 8 tapas dishes between 4 people which was a perfect amount. The home made sangria was the best I've ever tasted too! Will be going back very soon.
A very pleasant visit. The food was cooked to a very high standard, ambience was excellent and the staff were so attentive and pleasant. I enjoyed my visit and will continue to dine there. I have recommended to friends and family who have also visited and found it to be just as nice as I said. Really, really good. Sylvia G
We had an excellent experience at Bar 61. Great food, atmosphere and staff really helpful, friendly and welcoming. Had to wait quite a while for our food (tapas which was all delicious and we had a Spaniard with us so she was a good judge) but we were given some olives to keep us going without having to ask. Liqueurs on the house as well. All in all a brilliant evening.
Love going to this restaurant, the food and the service are amazing. "Al" always makes you feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Really like the lovely touch with the fruit and liqueur at the end of your meal, on the house. One of my fave places to eat in Streatham
My friend and I found this place after searching for local tapas places after watching a movie in Streatham. This was an exceptional find. We were planning to attend again and who we'd bring with us before we'd even finished eating! Excellent customer service. Warm friendly staff. Beautiful ambience. EXCELLENT FOOD!
Bar 61 just became my new favourite restaurant! The tapas was the best I've had in London, and the staff were so friendly and fun, and made me feel really special on my birthday. It's a little gem and I'm so glad I've found it, will definitely be coming back.
What saves this from being one star is that they recognised how bad their own food was and removed three dishes from the bill. It is a travesty that this is Number 2 in TripAdvisor, while the Dairy, where we are going for a really special meal tomorrow night, languishes in a lowly position. Mussels, supposedly in white wine, but actually swimming in oil, were frozen mussels from New Zealand, serrano ham was prepackaged, whilst scampi meuniere were in some thick white sauce that tasted of wine and nothing else instead of being cooked in butter with parsley and lemon, the chipirones (baby squid) were rather too grown up instead. Service was charming and friendly, and a glass of white Rioja was excellent. Please people, get real and stop rating this restaurant so highly or at least learn what constitutes good food.
Wow, the most friendly restaurant that I have ever been to. My two year old grandson was made welcome and included. The whole family enjoyed our Sunday lunch and I intend to go again next month the celebrate my birthday. We all enjoyed the food.
Huge portions of food and a great choice of a la carte dishes which includes tapas. However the best is the service, the staff go above and beyond to look after you. I would recommended that they invest in a/c though as was rather hot!
Awesome place. Food was amazing with a great selection, the staff were friendly, personable, helpful and really made our night that much better. Honestly if you're in two minds - just try the place. We loved it and will be back again very soon.
We last came to Bar 61 about nine years ago when I lived round the corner. It's great to see that it's still going and still serving delicious tapas in a friendly, relaxed environment. We won't leave another nine years before we go back!
Superb service, food and general atmosphere! Could not be faulted and certainly the best tapas we've ever had - anywhere! The restaurant was quiet as it was mid-week, but I am confident that this standard would be maintained any day of the week.
Very pleasant atmosphere, friendly and amusing staff, extensive menu, five star food. Nothing not to like. It would make a great venue for a special meal although we just wanted a nice supper. I thought it was also good value for the money.
We had a great time at Bar 61. The food was really good, unfortunately it seemed our waiter forgot about us after mains, but it was nice to sit and chat without interruption. I must say that the atmosphere was rather pleasant and we would definitely have dinner there again.
Lovely local restaurant. The atmosphere was great, and the service we received was fantastic. We shared some tapas for starters, before having steak for our mains - all of which was at a good standard. Would definitely go again.
Our table was booked for 9pm, all tables were full and we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. We ordered, and waited 15 minutes just for olives, when they arrived they were clearly straight from a jar in the fridge, aweful. We then waited another 45 minutes + for our food, more than an hour from when we were seated. The potatas bravas consisted of probably tinned, chopped tomatoes with chilli added over not properly cooked potatoes, the bean stew was utterly tasteless. Some things were good, mushroom & cheese in breadcrumb starter, sardines and chorizo, but overall a poor experience for both service and food, and would certainly not return here.
Excellent service and delicious fresh food. We had various seafood dishes and all were very tasty and fresh. Generous portions. Were offered liqueurs on the house too. Great for a local neighbourhood restaurant. It's personable and not formulaic.
The food was great - we particularly enjoyed the octopus and ratatouille. The setting is really cosy and convivial and the service extremely warm and friendly. A great night out on a wet and windy Easter Monday.
The service was excellent and attentive and the food great as well. We ate from the tapas menu but plan to go back and eat from the a la carte menu at some point soon!
Very friendly and excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. It was my niece's 30th and they really made a fuss of her which truly made her day. Food was varied and very tasty too.
The staff were extremely friendly and efficient who did all they could to ensure we had a pleasurable meal. The menu is very varied with dishes to suit all and 5 generous tapas between 3 of us was more than enough.
We went for tapas, which were dlelicious. The calamari some of the best I've had, so tender. Our waiter tony was fun and charming and the complementary limoncello a nice touch. Will be back!
Great food, clean and an excellent service. This is our 5th time going that should speak for its self. The staff are very welcoming. Been to many restaurants but this still remains our number one.
Excellent, very friendly service, excellent food, excellent value for money. My Son lives in the area but had never been there - that will change now and he will become one of the locals.
Lovely family run restaurant, food was amazing, when it arrived. We did have to wait over an hour but that was because they had a group of 30 in for a party. We had the tapas menu and enjoyed everything - very delicious and would definitely come back again!
Amazing! The food was outstanding !!! Service was incredible!! Will deffenitly go again!!!! Could not believe how well priced the menu was as well:-) great value! Also, The dessert menu was outstanding!
Lovely tapas (we ordered six and it was a little too much so they wrapped it for us to take home). friendly staff, intimate atmosphere. Chairs a bit hard! Would definitely recommend.
Went here for a family meal. Staff very friendly, food was good value for money. Waiter even threw in some complimentary drinks and fresh fruit selection to compensate for a rather loud group on a near by table.
We had the most amazing evening, they looked after us as we were VIPS ! Food amazing as usual, this has always been my favourite restaurant and now my kids !
Lovely food and very friendly staff, they looked after us when my girlfriend became ill (through no fault of Bar61) and let us take the remaining food and wine away with us - we will definitely return
Great experience in Bar 61, excellent tapas food and perfect friendly service, one of the very best dining experience I have ever had in London. Definitely want to go back.
We had numerous plates of tapas and each was outstanding, the service was attentive without being too 'in your face' and the whole restaurant had a very authentic, homely atmosphere
Loved the food, loved Tony, loved the atmosphere. Make sure to try the ratatouille and ask for a shot of the delicious Spanish almond liqueur Avellana. We will be back!
Wonderful food wonderful service, My wife's birthday meal could not have been celebrated better. My wife and two kids had the fish, and OMG the fish was cooked to perfection.
Great restaurant lovely Spanish food and the staff where friendly. Al pacino aka Tony and gundi made our expereince even more pleasurable! I recommend the king prawns and lamb chops
Amazing service. The food vas very good and fresh. I will definitely go to bar 61 again. They made me and my friends to fell very special. Thank you.
100% I recomend this restaurant! Amazing service and tasty food :) If you are looking for a familiar place to have a lovely dinner I recomend to come here!
Tapas was great tasting and the portions were generous, staff were brilliant, great wine and sangria! Nice and cosy environment. Even received complimentary liquor shots! Definitely would go again.
Sublime customer service and honestly priced wholesome tasty food. We are looking forward to going back and would have no hesitation in recommending this eatery to anyone else. Marcus
A nice enough restaurant with nice decor, very good staff, a very good menu and plenty choice of drinks, but the food we ordered was underwhelming and our night suffered from uncomfortable seating. Still a good place to at least try for yourself.
Cosy relaxed place with friendly staff. We were at little bit early this evening, but it was ok anyway. Ok food but we will rather go back som other time and try there own food - not New Years dinner. Quiet simple meny.
Lovely restaurant but our order got misplaced and we were kept waiting for an hour, but well worth the wait the food was absolutely gorgeous, and they give us a complementary bottle of wine.
Outstanding food and service even though I happened to arrive at a slow time in the middle of the afternoon when many restaurants would have resented the interruption.
