You can just about spit a cherry stone from the front door of this branch of the Bar At
One empire to Brighton pier. Located on Castle Square, Bar at One Brighton does
this pretty English seaside town proud. Downstairs in the public bar, you’ll find plenty
of booths and bar stools to mull over one of over a hundred cocktails prepared by
expert resident mixologists from the glowing varicoloured bottles lining the wall
behind the bar. Choose unwisely and you’ll likely be surprised. As always, Bar At
One’s staff are forthcoming with excellent recommendations or custom cocktails.
Bar At One Brighton’s signature quartet of cocktails include the classic
Dark & Stormy – interpreted here as a judicious blend of Gosling’s dark rum, ginger
beer, and sour lime. The Irish Disco biscuit will get the sweet-toothed throwing
shapes along the length of the bar, sandwiching pepperminty creme de menthe,
Baileys, and smashed Oreo cookies between silky sheets of vanilla ice cream and
half-and-half. It’s a decadent dessert in liquid form. The Cuban Zombie packs a real
punch, with three kinds of rum in an aromatic tropical blend that is sure to put any
recipient under its spell. Finally, the Candy Pants is a long-trousered number made
with Absolut Kurant vodka and chambord, hemmed with lemon and cranberry juices,
and flared out a little with strawberry puree. One to put bells on your bottom. Be At
One Brighton’s Castle Square premises also have a private party area upstairs
– booking through Quandoo is essential.
