The Staff,ambience and food at this place are great. Very attentive with little extras like topping up glasses makes it feel like you're special. Food is exceptional and very reasonable.

Fab restaurant. Will definitely be back. Friendly, family orientated restaurant. House wines are better than some expensive wines I've tasted. Food is divine. Thanks. Can't wait to come back Probably only down side is if you have someone with mobility problems there are some steep steps.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. It is small but perfectly formed, has an intimate atmosphere and the staff provide the right balance of attention- allowing conversation to flow without interruption, wine magically refilled and the food we had was cooked to perfection. What more can anyone ask for.

Service was extremely slow. Staff friendly. Food not up to its usual standards. My king prawn with garlic was very disappointing. I have been to this restaurant several times over many years but do not live in Durham now. Have always regarded it as the best Italian in town.

As hoped, a window table awaited me and my wife. Nice to see a waiter we knew from another restaurant. My pizza was nearly as good as those I bake at home - with anchovies and mozzarella. Excellent wine at reasonable price. Ciao!

My favourite restaurant in Durham. Great food and surroundings. Lovely quaint and authentic Italian atmosphere with friends and family. Allessandro was very attentive. Very busy considering was a Tuesday evening.

Attentive and knowledgeable waiters. Excellent food. Wide ranging menu includes pizza and pasta dishes as well as interesting meat and fish main courses. My partner had steak and I had lemon sole with prawns and mussels. Vegetables were included. We had a starter and main course each and sadly were too full to contemplate ordering a dessert. This was our first visit and I look forward to returning to the Bistro Italiano.

Lovely setting in three separate areas with nice Italian music playing when we arrived. Food quality was superb and so was value for money. I have a new favourite eating place in Durham.

Not a great experience - visited with two other couples and the music in the restaurant made it difficult for us to have a conversation, food was mediocre to good, risotto undercooked and lobster over cooked then charged for food that was not ordered, we last visited in June this year and food and ambiance was much better on this occasion

The food was brilliant and the customer service was excellent. Very good value for money, would definitely recommend. We had two children with us and nothing was too much trouble.

Food excellent and fast service and we caught early bird special so good value for money. Only downside for me is rushed us in and out quite quickly and if you have trouble climbing steps they are rather steep

Great food , nice atmosphere. Would recommend giving it a go. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother. All in all had a great night.

We were booked in a 7.00 on a Thursday night and the restaurant was already busy. We were met immediately and shown to our table. As soon as we had settled our drinks orders were taken and this set the tone for the whole meal. Service was prompt but not rushed and the food was perfect. Definitely one of the best Italian restaurants I have eaten and not at all expensive. Highly recommended!

My husband and i booked for ur birthdays in July 2017. Everything about the restaurant was exeptional, we ordered steaks which were cooked to perfection the service was great...........we will definately be back.

We had booked a table for 8pm but were running late - the weather in Durham was very wet and windy and our plans had had to be amended so we phoned ahead to say we woud be more likely to arrive at 8 30pm. The restaurant said this was fine but in the end we did arrive at 8pm ! The restaurant is small and was very full - it was Graduation week in Durham and the city was full of graduands and their parents . My som and I were welcomed like long lost relatives and immediately shown to a table. AS usual there were fresh flowers and white tablecloth and napkins . We shared a plate of homemade ravioli from the Specials board and then I had the monkfish again from the Specials . My son chose steak Diane which should have been sirloin but they had run out so gave him a ribsteak at no extra charge - it was huge and cooked to his request . We have eaten there many times and it is always excellent . The welcome never fails .

First visit last night and really impressed, beautiful white table linen, friendly helpful staff, a really good choice on the menu and our food tasted delicious, thank you.

We had a variety of food, AntiPasti and garlic bread for starters, Fish, Steak, King prawns and Lamb for Mains. It was all very good. The staff were very nice and helpful. I would go again
