About Boccellis Italian Restaurant
In the Lundwood neighbourhood of Barnsley, there’s one Italian restaurant that you can count on for quality, flavour and service – we’re talking about Boccelli’s Italian Restaurant, a dining establishment that’s the perfect option for dinner on Grange Lane. Situated inside of an historic water mill dating from around the year 1150, this Italian restaurant provides a unique experience for local diners and tourists alike. With live events held on the regular, Boccelli’s offers more than just dinner and drinks. Reservations are highly recommended.

The premises alone are enough to make Boccelli’s the talk of South Yorkshire. A refurbished water mill in Lundwood dating from the 12th century, this Barnsley restaurant on Grange Lane is a history lover’s dream, and is also a treat for architecture aficionados or those who simply like a cosy feel. With exposed beams and stone walls, the restaurant is both stunning and incredibly relaxed. Also ideal for private functions, the entire restaurant is bookable for weddings, christenings, birthday celebrations and corporate events.
Boccelli’s serves up classic Italian cuisine, putting an emphasis on fresh ingredients and time-honoured recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Chef Livio is truly an expert, and his pizzas are out of this world – try the Rustica with mozzarella, tomato and Mediterranean vegetables for a delightful option. From the mains, we recommend the gourmet agnello Romano, a lamb shank served atop mashed potatoes, topped with a red wine rosemary sauce. And from the pasta options, you can’t go wrong with the penne amatriciana, penne cooked with bacon onion and tomato. Boccelli’s is one of Lundwood and Barnsley’s most popular restaurants – do yourself a favour and book a table in advance!
The food was fantastic, and the customer service was very good, we will be going back again. The location is good and the building was pleasantly decorated.
Absolutely fab restaurant staff always make you feel welcome. The food is brilliant good selection on the menus and great surroundings always love eating here.
A lovely meal in amazing surroundings with superbly attentive staff. They even brought us birthday pudding with a candle when we mentioned a birthday. First visit, but we will be back soon. The scallops were delicious , in fact everything was.Haven't had breakfast this morning as still full!
The restaurant was fabulous. Food and service was spot on. I would highly recommend a visit. Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere with locally sourced food.
Great ambience. The staff are attentitive but not intrusive. They are also very efficient. The building with the ordinal stonework makes for a venue with a difference. The food is excellent especially the 'sea bass in a bag' mwha. It was very busy, Saturday night at 7. This of course adds to the atmosphere. Would I dine here again? Most definitely. Can't find annything to fault, except unfortunately the number of steps to the restaurant.
Excellent service, we arrived early and was seated right away. Staff were friendly and inviting and engaged in conversations and a laugh with us, food was amazing and would definately visit again. My only critique would be( my opinion only) that my main was presented quickly after my starter and I was still a bit full so couldn't finish my main which was beautiful.
Polite and friendly staff were very attentive throughout, from bringing pre- dinner drinks and showing us downstairs to the bar, to serving our food. The meal was very good, some tasty, well-cooked dishes. Staff also advised us about specials that weren't on the menu. All in all, it was a lovely evening with good food and service.
I am in a difficult position because sadly I was unable to honor this booking. However, the restaurant were most understanding when I rang to cancel and wished my wife a speedy recovery. I fully intend to make good on the reservation at a later date. Therefore, my experience is based upon the Restaurant staff and Boccelli's the website, which I thought was very good.
Lovely setting, friendly staff and a good choice on the menu. Our group mostly had the pasta dishes but I would have liked to try a steak as they look delicious but were a bit pricey for us. A nice, relaxed evening
This was our first visit to Boccellis and we were not disappointed. The service was fist class, the atmosphere was very relaxing and the food was excellent. All in all a great restaurant.
Really nice place.. shame about the staff !! When we had finished are meal and just wanted to sit and chat felt like we where in the way and basically asked to leave!!!! Paid for meal waited for change never arrived... I would have tipped but would have liked the option... wouldn't go again... shame really because food was nice and the venue was gorgeous 😕😕
Although there were only 2 tables occupied in the restaurant, which invariably means a lack of atmosphere, the staff were very welcoming, gave us first class service and the food was its usual excellent quality. A most enjoyable evening.
Great food. In particular, the seafood linguini was up there as the best I've ever eaten, as was the creme brulee dessert. Lovely setting for the restaurant and atmosphere too
Fantastic service and foods, very old building with great touch, would recommend it to anyone, defiantly go there again, also would bring my family there in the future
Great staff, fantastic food well worth a try 😃 . Thay never rush you great location easy to find plenty of parking spaces . My favourite restaurant
Lovely restaurant. The food was fantastic. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Staff very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going again.
Good food, friendly service, interesting environment. Went for my son's 20th birthday, we would commend the place, and the serving staff. A hidden gem in Barnsley
Lovely food! Staff was really friendly couldn't do enough for you. Defiantly will go again. Loved it. First time I've been there and it was beautiful
Lovely restaurant, very attentive staff and lovely filling food, shame we couldn't fit a pudding in! I would most definitely go back again. We booked with no problems on line
Really pleasant staff, food was excellent. Staff attentive without being in your face, food was fresh, prompt and really good coffee! Would highly recommend. Thanks.
The food, staff and building so nice just a let down on the toilets having some work done last time we went but no different this time and they smelt.
The food was lovely but the card machine wasnt working so i had to drive to the closest cash machine, my partner asked for a free drink but when i came back to pay they charged me £6 for a glass of house white wine!
I love this restaurant, yesterday very busy and really not enough staff on to serve at table - which meant waiting little longer hence 5
Lovely old building but bench seats at some tables were uncomfortable and too low. Food was disappointing. Steak good but veg with it was a limited choice and poorly cooked. Salmon pasta was almost inedible with overpowering tomato sauce and far too much salt. It was presented in a deep glass bowl that made it look unappealing from the start.
Food quality fine, but overcooked and cold when served. Service was poor and akin to what you might expect in Fawlty Towers. Standard has deteriorated since previous visits.
Nice food, not too clear where to go on arrival. Forgot to bring my vegetables over, but sorted it out quickly when I asked. Would go again.
I was disappointed with the main course dish that I ordered. It was mussels in white wine but the mussels were tiny. Apart from this the service was very good.
A Lovely rustic restaurant with amazing food! The staff are incredibly attentive staff.
Never again. One hour before we got our table, further hour before starter arrived which was awful. Finally left without a meal. We weren't the only ones either, three other couples did the same.
