About Bombay Spice
York may have its fair share of curry houses, but nothing else compares to Bombay Spice, an award-winning restaurant – they’ve already taken home the title of Best Restaurant of the Year in Yorkshire & England 2016 and Best Team & Service of the Year 2015 in the English Curry Awards – in the city centre. Located on Goodramgate just steps from York Minster and all the major sights, the restaurant provides the ideal location to fuel up before setting out to see all that the city has to offer. Adorned in red, black and white, Bombay Spice’s dining space is sophisticated and chic, the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic evening out with that special someone. Recommended dishes include the vegetable jalfrezi, the duck tikka masala and our favourite, the pangash machli masala, a Bangladeshi fish speciality cooked in a creamy coconut and almond sauce. The restaurant’s incredible location and food means it’s known to pack in a crowd, so be sure to reserve ahead for a tantalising Indian feast.

Bombay Spice is a great restaurant, the food and service is exemplorary. Nothing was too much trouble and everything is freshly prepared. Always first choice for Indian food in York.
Had an excellent meal with friends at Bombay Spice, with excellent service. One of our diners has a nut allergy and the staff ensured that her meal was nut free (providing a safe alternative). Smiling faces and good attention. Thank you. A most enjoyable evening.
Really lovely gentle restaurant with food high on flavours and low on pretentiousness. Great service. Offered a complimentary drink at the end of the meal.
Great food, lively setting, good location for other bars. Helpful staff. Throughly enjoyable night with a group of friends. Usual curries and extras available. Recommended.
We arrived for our meal at 17.30. The restaurant had just opened, however we were attended to straight away. We were given a table. Had a waiter present us with menus and asked if we wanted complementary poppadoms. These arrived straight away and we were asked what we wanted to drink. Drinks arrived quickly and food was ordered. When our food arrived it was served to us in a polite and attentive manner. We were asked at appropriate times if everything was alright with our dinner and if we wanted anything else. This was done despite the restaurant being full and very busy. Attention to customers was spot on. The food was fantastic, probably one of the best curries I had. I am a vegetarian and there was a good range of meals even a separate section on the menu. I would definitely like to return when I am next in York. Thank you
We had a very enjoyable time. The restaurant is attractive and clean. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and attentive. We visited on Saturday night, booking in advance: it was busy but not overcrowded and our dishes were served promptly, with an opportunity to delay our main course if we wanted to. Our Kingfisher was ice cold and our dishes hot. The menu was extensive with good vegetarian choices. We were offered a complimentary spirit or liqueur and a chocolate. The food was tasty and well presented. My lamb jalfrezi was tender. My only criticism is that though it was described as 'fairly hot' it seemed only mildly spicy to me, though it had a pleasant warmth. As a bit of a chilli addict, next time I would choose something hotter, or perhaps ask if chef would adjust the heat for me. But service was first rate, we were well looked after and had a sociable, comfortable and relaxing evening.
The food was excellent and it's no surprise that this award winning restaurant will be going for three-in-a-row this August. The service was good, with the staff all being welcoming, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. One thing: if you are ordering the side vegetable dishes be warned. They are full sized plates so be prepared to order some and share. Looking forward to returning during my next visit to York.
I can't fault the food at all, it was lovely. My issue (and reason for the low rating) is because the waiters just did not seem bothered at all. They left us waiting at the narrow doorway for 10 minutes without acknowledgement. We then received an apology so I was happy to let that slide but the waiters were still very unhappy and blunt during service. It was difficult to get their attention, it felt like you were putting them out by asking for additional drinks etc.. OK it was a Saturday night and busy but most restaurants seem to manage busy times with a smile and great service. We were not in any rush so happy to wait, just wanted more friendly and pleasant servers.
Arrived and showed immediately to our table in a very full restaurant. Was given the menu and our drinks order taken. When food arrived it was delicious. The staff were very attentive and polite. I'm so glad we booked because I'm sure we wouldn't have got a table if we hadn't. We will definitely be visiting again
Booked at table for two last saturday night. First visit to Bombay Spice and were mightily impressed.Execellent food and service so will be going back on regular basis
Friendly welcome, friendly waiter and good, quick service. Starters were good and the mains excellent - we had a chicken dish and duck tikka masala, which was delicious. Could have been spicier but that's our fault for not ordering something a bit braver. Delighted to be offered a complimentary liqueur, so downed a free brandy and my son had a baileys. A super experience all round!
Loads of staff but you just feel like their main objective from the point of you arriving, is to get you out as quick as possible. In addition to this, (and having booked months in advance) after the first course, we were asked to relocate from the 1st floor to the ground floor as they'd had a large group turn up that they needed to seat! Food was a average bit note that their chicken tikka masala is overwhelmed with the flavour of mango. Overall a disappointment, after months of planning and high hopes, it turned out to be an anticlimax. Won't be going back.
Our fairly large group of eight all had a good meal at Bombay Spice. Everyone found the standard of the food to be very good and the staff were very welcoming.
Curry was nice as was all other food. Seating was a little cramped but not too much of an issue. We had a waiter who was on only his second shift who was entertaining. At one point we asked for the bill and he asked if we would like one glass or two as he though we'd asked for milk!?!
Was excellent food lovely service great was my sisters birthday she got cake and ice cream with candle and staff sang Happy Birthday to her then gave her box of Chocolates and gave the 3 of us a Baileys all on the house we will return when next in York
The food was the most authentic we have tried in the York. We tried the vegetable plate appetiser and the meat plate appetiser. All the tasters were lovely although the samosas were a disappointment. We tried the Chicken chilli garlic and lamb with spinach and Ochra. Both were delightful. The chapati and roti were fresh from the oven and excellent.
Food and service were both very good especially as the restaurant was very busy, turning potential customers away! Starter of chicken chatt and onion bhaji, chatt a little under spiced but bhaji was excellent. Main of Jalfrezi and Madras both good but the stand out was the nann bread very light and airy not at all stodgy like some.
Awesome place. The servers were very attentive and polite. We ordered Lamb samosas and onion Bhaji to start and were very tasty for mains we ordered lamb rogan Josh and chicken korma which again did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend.
Not much to be said: food and service were both excellent. Especially impressed at them squeezing us in at short-notice on a Saturday night and still getting food and drinks to the table so quickly. I'll definitely eat here again!
Had a lovely meal for our wedding anniversary. The lamb kebab was tasty and the Karachi lamb was so tender. We even offered a complimentary spirit at the end of the meal. Will definitely go again. The service was also very quick, even though the restaurant was busy.
