Every day’s a fresh start in the kitchen at Chef Special along Lower Richmond Road in London’s Putney. Monday through Sunday sees a new buffet selection available, with chef patron R Dias bringing to bear his wide-ranging expertise when it comes to European and international cuisines. Chef Special is the culmination of Dias’ twenty-plus-years of experience working in the kitchens of major restaurants and hotels around the world, and this calm, always-innovative and affordable family restaurant is a welcome addition to the London dining scene.
Monday: Texas fried chicken. Tuesday: vichy carrot plus mac’n’cheese. Wednesday: ratatouille and lasagna al forno. Thursday: rice and ricotta cannelloni. Thank God it’s Friday: penne pasta arrabiata and chicken stroganoff. Indian Saturdays: chana masala, Bombay aloo, dal tarka, plus naan, papadams, and raita aplenty. Sunday: BBQ beef burgers. These are just some of the options at Chef Special, found down Putney’s Lower Richmond Road. Here you can eat like royalty all week long, sampling the best of European, pan-Asian, and international dishes without leaving London.
The concept of a rotating, regularly changing buffet restaurant was inspired by head chef R Dias’ tenure at a number of major international eateries. His credentials include stints at the Duck & Waffle, a fine dining establishment overlooking London from the 40th floor, and the kitchen of the Grand Mercure. Working here, Dias was exposed to a diverse range of menus, all of the highest calibre. Wanting to offer patrons the same diversity, but at far more down-to-earth prices, Chef Special was born. At prices that won’t break the bank, and with dishes that mix up the familiar and the unusual, this place down Putney’s Lower Richmond Road is a restaurant for the whole family, any day of the week!
