Haverstock Hill is not without its charms. This north-west corner of Camden is home to the closest you can get to a local high street this close to Central. It is not, however, where you’d immediately head for a moment of unadulterated sun, heat and brightness. Unless you happen to know about Coco Bamboo, that is. Home to Haverstock Hill’s very own escape, Coco Bamboo is a Brazilian and Caribbean restaurant offering Camden residents a slice of the sun in NW3.
There’s plenty of spicy bites down the road from Coco Bamboo’s Haverstock Hill premises at Camden market, and even some bits and bobs of Caribbean and Brazilian food. But for all its popularity with tourists with their bags from Cyberdog, the market is not ideal for finding authentic cuisine. Enter Coco Bamboo. Guests descend into the restaurant’s cavernous interior and are greeted with a menu that demonstrates the kitchen’s local favourites. Try ackee and grilled palm hearts for starters and then opt for Brazilian bobo de camarao, tiger prawns in coconut milk with sweet chilli and cassava puree, tomatoes and coriander. If you’ve still got a little room, you can’t go far wrong with the house chocolate cake, especially given it comes with a dollop of coconut ice cream too.
Coco Bamboo is open Wednesday-Sunday from 5pm on weekdays and from 12pm during the weekend, so you can pop in for something a little lighter if you feel peckish around lunch time. Pick at some tapas and sip one of their signature cocktails and dream of the beach.
We are too happy with Coco Bamboo :) excellent staff, atmosphere, drinks and especially the food!
My visit was very welcome ,warm and friendly. Food was very good and steak cooked just right. The service was very good and helpful. Will be visiting again and also tell all my friend.
It is a great place with perfect service, nice food and interesting music background. Wonderful restaurant where you can meet with friends. I recommend it for everyone.
Staff were polite and nice, the ambience and presentation of Coco Bamboo is great too. Great cocktails too, only downside was the length of time we had to wait for our food. I recommend Coco Bamboo good restaurant.
Very nice food, portions were the perfect size, not too big not too small. We were two and shared a starter and had a main each and were satisfied without being too full. We also enjoyed some cocktails. Service was good too. The only slightly negative thing is that the restaurant was quieter than expected.... wish it had a little bit more of a vibrant atmosphere.
Good service an good food. Nice ambient atmosphere, would go again
Really awful service. Nobody came to seat us for ages or took our order once we'd sat down so after waiting for 15 minutes we left. As we were leaving we explained why, and the woman behind the bar just shrugged
The food was very average with unpleasant sauces. The service was not very good and we had to constantly repeat ourselves. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this restaurant.
