Hong Kong is filled with superb places to eat, representing the many culinary cultures of the world. The embassy of the French lies in Sheung Wan, at Cocotte on Shin Hing Street, where one can find all the haute cuisine favourites of La France, cooked up by les freres Moldovan, Brice and Jonathan. Their location, down the side of Hollywood Road, is secluded yet exclusive, and their decor exudes style and sophistication that one would expect from a French restaurant.

What do we think of when we think of the French? Hundreds of years of culinary excellence, superlative style and crushing military defeats: all of these are on offer at Cocotte in Sheung Wan. (They may or may not have an army). The brothers Jonathan and Brice Moldovan opened this Shin Hing Street brasserie in the up-and-coming NoHo district, by Hollywood Road, with the intention of bringing French cuisine and French glamour – and a pinch of rough-around-the-edges French cool – to the heart of Hong Kong.
The food is the star, of course, and at Cocotte, they have a seasonal menu with takes advantage of the range of ingredients and flavours available in Hong Kong. Duck breast and foie gras, charcuterie, beef bavette and tarte tatin are just a few of the French favourites available on Shin Hing Street in Sheung Wan. There’s also the Hangover Set – a thankfully Virgin Mary spiked with horseradish and tabasco, a short, sharp espresso shot, bagel with smoked salmon and eggs. Forewarned is forearmed, but remember that you can’t eat all this from home: so book your table now and head on over for a classy evening or elegantly dissolute morning in Hong Kong.
Nice atmosphere & Good food.(Onion gratin was a bit too salty, though. And French fries were not what I expected. very thin..) Totally satisfied! We Definitely visit this restaurant again!
The food is always excellent at Cocotte. One of my Must go places ! A little challenging to find the first time ... Hollywood road below PMQ and down the second set of steps ! Enjoy !!
Great dishes, great wine, great vibe. The location on one of the Central pedestrian alleys is inviting, and the staff are friendly. Highly recommended spot.
Can't get enough of Cocotte! Great service and lovely food. I had a great time there! I will go again soon! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful restaurant interior and cosy space. Food is decent. However, the restaurant's policy is too strict on celebrating birthday. We are a group of 10 ladies. Brought along 6 cupcakes to sing a birthday song to our friend at the end of the brunch. But we were told that the restaurant will charge us HKD25 for each person (Total: $250) for that. My friends left the place feeling disgusted. I, myself, felt bad. If I knew this policy earlier, I won't have organised my friend's birthday at this restaurant. We only wanted to blow candles and didn't plan to finish all 6 cupcakes, so to charge $25 for each pax is ridiculous when it adds up to a total of $250 - You can buy a whole cake with this amount. The lack of flexibility from the restaurant/staff has sadly spoilt the birthday spirit and our first experience at Cocotte.
The restaurant is nicely located and food and wine was good. 50% on wine bottles on Monday which was great. 2 things could have been better. First, there was a very noisy guy. I guess it was a business meeting for him so we could hear him negociating and express his unsatisfaction. It was a romantic dinner for us so not really a good ambiance... Secondly, my husband ordered the pigeon but ended with the pork. He decided to keep the plate so that we can eat together (French way). We didn't get any discount at the end.
Yummy food with terrific service in a cozy, peaceful environment! Just perfect to kick off a lazy Saturday noon by having breakfast much in Cocotte!
Service was really great. My partner had the Hokkaido scallops and he said that it was one of the best scallops he had and it is even better than our home country Australia. Though my family ordered the steak but they said the steak was just OK or a bit too much fat. Overall, the experience was good and worth to try!
Mixed feelings about this place, the starters were lovely but for mains we were served a cut of meat that was 50% fat so we could only eat half of it, I don't think that's a fair deal for a piece of meat that costs $750. Desserts were tasty but very stingy, two tiny crepes that left us hungry and dissappointed. Also, wine was served hot and fries were served cold, shouldn't it be the other way round?
It was my first time experience at Cocotte, it was good environment for diner. Well serviced from start until the end. Food portion size was small, nice desserts.
A modern cozy French restaurant with friendly & attentive staff , great location (Shin Hing Street) and probably the best tartare in Hong Kong! As for a small restaurant they also have a wonderful wine menu.
A pleasant surprise of the quality of dishes! Good attentive services and friendly staff and restaurant manager! The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed! We had a company farewell dinner party of 12, and everyone of us enjoyed the dinner!
Really enjoyed our dinner! Met our expectations. Staff were friendly and professional, paid approx. 800 each including food and wine. They did a dessert for our friend's birthday as well, will return!
Went for lunch. Had the set lunch - tomato gazpacho and steak frites. Classic dishes extremely well made with quality ingredients. As usual great service as well. Highly reommended.
Food tastes good. Portions are small. Almost ordered everything on the menu. Which made it above average pricing with a bottle of wine. Mains came out cold. Nice decor. Not too loud. Quaint. Comfortable seating. Great service especially Danni from Vancouver Island.
A wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere and an excellent array of cuisine. The fellow patrons were quiet and it was an excellent place for a Sunday lunch.
Very good food (went for brunch), good portions and excellent service. Good variety of choices and seating arrangements were cost without being too crowded. Will definitely return.
That were my dinner with girlfriend, the atmosphere was quite relaxing, food were really nice with reasonable price. We would both recommend this restaurant to others.
Excellent menu! Very accommodating and friendly staff. There are delicious cocktails and all of the dishes we ordered were fantastic! Cannot think of any flaw!
The Crab and Avocado app was delish! The rib eye with the tarragon mustard, superb! Cute area too. Makes for a great date night. Will definitely go back again.
If I had to align some words that come to my mind, it would be : very good food experience, cosy atmosphere and excellent service. We will come back.
Nice atmosphere, very good services, good food ( except for the croque monsieur which had too much cream & cheese), everything else perfectly good. we will be back
Atmosphere and service was great, but food was well below par. The croque madame was dry and didn't have a layer of sauce inside (basically just became a glorified ham and cheese sandwich), salad wasn't great and nor the chips. Eggs benedict were below par too
The quaint and cozy environment made this the perfect place for a relaxed weekend Brunch! Food was amazing and the service was great, would definitely go back.
This restaurant has good service and some good dishes. it is a but pricey but the highlights like prawn risotto and the beef tartare are worth it.
Had a wonderful dining experience, pleasant service, well-executed dishes and great location in a peaceful part of town. Will definitely recommend for quiet dinner with grown-ups.
stylish French restaurant at the quite Sheung Wan area. we had lunch there, foods are well presented and delicious, services are great, love the deco too!
Great place for a relaxing Saturday lunch. Location just behind PMQ easy to located. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food was yummy. Their desserts looks amazing , must try while next visit.
Comfy and nice food, feel like French bistro for sure. Just the price of bottle of wine is a bit too pricy compared to others...
Good atmosphere, vibe and location for this cute brunch spot. Friend had the grilled cheese and I had the salmon cream cheese bagel. Loved it!
Food with heart and wine reasonable during lunch time. Lunch menu also changes thoughtfully. Very high standard of beef cooking. Unfortunately, dinner severely more expensive.
Very nice food, fine wines, very good service. I spent a lovely evening with friends in a smart and cosy atmosphere. Try it very soon!
Nice atmosphere, opens till late. Food was above average. Dessert was good also. Could accommodate both large groups and smaller tables of two. Discovery menu under $400 a bonus.
Good food, a little bit pricey, service is ok, not a child friendly restaurant so save it for your friends, brunch menu is a bit limited though
Nice ambiance at restaurant. Food wasn't as great as I expected. The service of the staff was friendly in general and attentive. Good in general.
Food was not bad, desserts were terrible but service was top notch. Ambience and mood of the place was nice as well. Can do better
Good food and ambience, attentive service but loud music and a full restaurant meant you had to shout to be heard. Bench seating much less comfortable than the chairs
