In a town as historic as Shrewsbury, it’s no wonder purveyors of French cuisine, Côte Brasserie have decided to open their doors to the lucky locals of this market town. Located in the heart of the town centre in The Square, this classic restaurant showcases the best of classic French brasserie cuisine with all the favourites you have come to expect from this family of restaurants dotted throughout the United Kingdom. What could be better than relaxing over a glass of delicious French wine and sampling Beef Bourguignon or steak frites while catching up with old friends or the whole family? Not much, in our opinion, so reserve a table at this French delight. You won’t be disappointed.
The team behind Côte Brasserie have a strong commitment to producing impeccable French dishes using only the best quality ingredients from regions around France and the United Kingdom, so as to pay homage to both of their influences. Creating classic brasserie fare is high on the agenda for this much-loved family of restaurants, alongside stellar service and an atmosphere rivalling the bistros in Paris, complete with eye-catching striped awning and chic interior that is synonymous with Côte Brasserie.
For a classic French experience we love starting the affair with prawn gratinée of king prawns in a white wine, garlic, chilli and tomato sauce with garlic and parsley croutons or steak tartare with shallots, capers, cornichons, egg yolk and cognac, before moving on to either the Breton fish stew with sea bream, mussels, clams and prawns, roast duck breast with gratin potato and griottine cherry sauce or a perfectly cooked steak to your liking with your choice of French housemade sauce to go with it. Whatever your choice, Côte Brasserie in Shrewsbury is guaranteed to satisfy those French cravings. You’ll find them in The Square in the heart of the Shrewsbury town centre. Bookings are essential.
We visited this sister hotel in Norwich this week were so impressed thought we would try the Shrewsbury one. Quality all the way staff very attentive without being pushy, food just right when you look at helpings you think that's not much but because of the quality you eat it slower enjoy and digest it better and feel full.
Staff were friendly and professional. Food was lovely. Well priced. Good weather meant we could sit outside, which was a bonus. Will be going again!
We had a lovely evening and the food was fantastic. Quite slow on waiting for main course. Georgia our waitress was so lovely and helpful.
Came with friends to celebrate a birthday, so we had high expectations. No need to worry as the food and service was excellent. Thank you for a lovely evening.
We arrived on a cold snowy evening and were warmly welcomed and shown to our table nicely away from the entrance door. Our waiter Daniel introduced himself and looked after us admirably throughout our time at Côte. We shared a the Charcuterie Board starter which was very nice. Unfortunately they accidentally brought our main courses out whilst we were eating the starter, but took them back as soon as they realised their error. When we were ready for the main courses they were then brought out. My main course was Tuna Niçoise and was perfectly cooked, however my partner's dish of Steak Frites was only warm. We quickly drew this to the attention of our waiter Daniel who was mortified and immediately took it back to be redone, and said he would also tell the manager as this was unacceptable to their usual high standards. The manager quickly came over and profusely apologised and offered my partner another glass of wine (on the house) whilst he waited for his dish to be recooked. This arrived very promptly and was now perfectly cooked. For dessert we had Chocolate pot and the Banana Crepe, which were both very nice. We then relaxed with coffees and after dinner drinks which were very reasonably priced. When we left the staff once again apologised for the problem with the steak frites and hoped that had not spoilt our evening, It hadn't, we had a lovely time. We know that occasionally things go wrong and it is the way that an establishment deals with an issue that is important. On this occasion the staff dealt with the issue perfectly, and we'd certainly recommend Côte Shrewsbury for the Quality of their food and service. In fact we have always found that despite being a Restaurant Change, the quality is on par with independent, quality restaurants.
Greeting was excellent. Attentive and very welcoming. Seated and made comfortable. Seen by various staff, so we were welcomed by many. Shown various menus and asked if we would like a drink. Our main waiter, was excellent. Enthusiastic & attentive, but not intrusive, or over familiar. Helped with menu choice and wine choice. Super chap with a very genuine personality. Just how we like our waiter to be. Starters were excellent. We’d like to see small amounts of bread on the table as a gesture for starters. Rather than decide it was needed, once the starter had arrived. Main courses were executed to perfection. Pork belly and Fillet steak cooked to perfection as requested. Thank you chefs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their mains. Desserts were good, the orange crepe was delicious, I think presentation could be a little more creative though, so that the ice cream does not completely melt into cream and is a bit more 3D! All in all excellence. Thank you chefs, and in particular to our waiter who made the evening. Obviously someone steering the ship well. For those reasons we were happy to pay the automatically added service charge. However, I would like to hear this mentioned by whoever brings the menus and state that if you are unhappy with it then please feel free to say so. It can be a deal breaker for some. I always happy if it has been earned and worked for. Tonight most definitely.
Early evening meal with friends, the place was busy but not too crowded, some small tables i.e. seating 2 people seemed a bit close to each other for my taste but our table was in a corner and was fine. The staff were very pleasant if a bit chatty - 'how has your day been?' etc. but that again is a personal thing. The Early menu was excellent although only one vegetarian option which I didn't fancy but I eat fish and there were at least two choices and what I had ( Salmon fishcakes) was really tasty, just like home made and just enough. The starters and desserts were all lovely...tasty, filling and nicely presented. My only reservation was the house wine. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and although it was drinkable it was very light with not much flavour at all. Overall it was a brilliant meal, cannot fault the meal or the service as the courses were presented with just enough time in between to be comfortable and the staff were very efficient. I will definitely be back!!
This was my first visit, together with three friends, to Cote Brasserie. Although I had read a very favourable review in the local paper, our Briiish and French dining experiences over many years meant that we kept an open mind. However, as we approached the resaurant we felt re-assured by the welcoming atmosphere. Having reserved on line, we were immidiately made to feel very welcome and at ease. We were ushered to our table without delay and we could see that, although the resteraunt was very busy, the staff were going to ensure that our experience would be first class. We were impressed with the choice of items on the menu and all thoroughly enjoyed the chosen high quality and carefully prepared dishes. The food, service and atmophere met our highest expectations We will be returning to Cote again in Shrewsbury and perhaps other destinations.
The staff at Côte Shrewsbury were friendly, courteous and efficient. We had the three course set lunch menu for £13.50. It was delicious and excellent value. Can't wait to visit again. We only visit Shrewsbury about twice a year and would definitely return to Côte Shrewsbury next time.
We ordered the set lunch which turned out to be quite mediocre and not very French in our opinion, which should be valid, as we have travelled extensively in France and eaten in many French restaurants. The starter of langoustine tails was a small portion of fish with a large quantity of gloopy mayonnaise. The chicken walnut salad main course consisted of alot of lettuce and some very dry strips of chicken. The dressing was acceptable, but rather bland in flavour. The choice of desserts was small. We did not see any fresh vegetables being offered on this menu, which made the price look expensive for what we got on our plates, and in comparison to other similar eating places nearby made it a poor deal. In addition, when we spotted that there is a 12.5 % service charge included in the bill we were quite taken aback, as we always leave a tip when eating out, and are generous if the service has been exceptional. But we do not feel that we should have to pay automatically. It did say that this was optional, but when dining within earshot of other people it is not always easy to change this without appearing mean. We were very aware that this is one of a chain of restaurants, where the staff have a 'script' and the eye is very much on marketing, but for us the truly personal touch was missing, and we will be going back to our favourite French style bistro soon where we know we will get seasonal vegetables and a good selection of desserts.
