About Damas - The Art of Meze
More about the restaurant: Damas - The Art of Meze
The Spanish have tapas and Arabic cultures have meze, platters designed for social dining, to be passed around the table among friends and family. Damas - The Art of Tapas is a specialist in this Middle Eastern mode of dining, as the name would suggest (it’s also inspired by the Syrian capital of Damascus). Drawing together influences from closely related Greek and Middle Eastern Mediterranean cuisines, Damas is the passion project of chef and owner Hamdi Alsabbagh, and it’s at his restaurant in the Manchester suburb of Chorlton that he showcases the wonderful blend of flavours, colours and textures that meze platters represent. A great introduction to Damas is to go for the Art of Meze special for a minimum of two people (meat and vegetarian options are both available). Find Damas along Barlow Moor Road, near the intersection with Sandy Lane, but be sure to book as Damas’ reputation is steadily growing in what The Times recently called one of the UK’s coolest districts.
