Inspired by the famous Danube River, running through Central and Eastern Europe, Daube Restaurant simply must be tried. Why? Well, to begin with, this specialist European restaurant is unlike any other in Newark-on-Trent. You’ll find a range of dishes hailing from Central Europe – specifically the Danube region – and the team locally source all ingredients where possible from this enchanting area. Located in the town centre on Castle Gate, you’ll find dishes like wiener schnitzel with Jaeger sauce, mussels cooked in white wine and garlic, 24-hour slow-roasted ox tail cheeks and many other delectable options. With plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on offer as well, you’ll be in for an unforgettable culinary treat when dining at Danube.
Excellent, as always. Great food, friendly service, nice beer. What more could you ask for. One of the best restaurants in Newark. Try it if you haven't already
Kind staff, good food! Try the schnitzels, they are really well prepared. The apple strudel has personality and the wine list is focused on western europe with good options.
For a first visit to Danube, we were very impressed. The food was extremely good ( with vegetarian alternatives ), it was very good value, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Beautiful food excerlent service Lovely little restaurant perfect location good choice of food. Perfect wine list I highly recommend the slow roasted OX cheek so good
Went to Danube with my partner and my daughter and we had a lovely evening here. The friendly owner and her staff were attentive but not intrusive. Our table was near the bar so was quiet as there were a couple of larger groups in the main part of the restaurant. We shared 2 starters and each had a different main course all of which were excellent. I had the slow cooked ox cheek, this was delicious. The portions were plenty and we sadly couldn’t manage desserts. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful evening.
Everything about our experience was really good. We were made to feel really welcome and the staff were all very attentive, polite and professional. Service was swift without being rushed and nothing was too much trouble. The whole ambience was pleasant ad homey. The food was very high quality and reasonably priced. We would highly recommend the Danube. Thank you.
We had a warm welcome from the Staff. The service was courteous. My chicken was beautifully cooked and presented and my husband found no fault with his pork dish. He commented that his starter was really special (frickadellen). We always enjoy visiting the Danube.
We ate here on a very cold evening in March but the restaurant was warm with welcoming and polite staff. I could not fault the attentive staff who were very professional and obviously well-trained. I was a little disappointed with my main meal which was vegetable moussaka as potatoes were the main ingredient whereas I was expecting from the menu description for there to be more aubergine/courgette/peppers. The pudding was delicious - apple strudel - and the wine from Moldavia vey good. We will try again at some stage as would not wish to judge too harshly on the strength of one visit.
A lovely little restaurant well situated across from the Castle. Ramona makes one feel welcome from the minute one steps in through the door. The menu is well balanced and thoughtfully provides lots of options for gluten free food which was a refreshing change from most restaurants in the UK. The food was delicious, well prepared and presented. Definitely returning.
Hard to get atmosphere with only one other table occupied ( I think by two german girls ) but an excellent meal and service. We will keep on trying to persuade people to try it. Did Benjamin pass on the suggestion of having the flags of all bordering countries displayed as flat emblems across the frontage to brighten it up and hopefully create interest?
