Davy’s Truckles off Bury Place in London’s richly historic Bloomsbury is yet another instance of the famously charming Davy’s wine bar stable. This ground floor bar offers covered and comfortable outdoor seating on their terrace in a small yard away from the main street. It’s a quiet spot to enjoy Davy’s signature offering of fine wines and food. On the inside, Davy’s once again showcases its wine bars’ fondness for vintage surrounds, with wood-panelled walls, elegant furnishings and barrels for the casual sipper dotted about. Perfect for every occasion – be it a shared bottle or a full banquet.

Bloomsbury is suffused with London’s literary history. What better location, then, for another outpost of Davy’s famous wine bars and restaurants. Davy’s Truckles – or to grant the full title, Davy’s Truckles of Pied Bull Yard – is situated just south of the British Museum, in the eponymous courtyard just off Bury Place. If you thought Bury Place was a quiet and quaint spot for a stroll through this historic district, why not really relax down this little mews with a glass or two from Davy’s Truckles well- stocked cellar. Or, head inside and take in the old-world charm of the cosy bar and dining area. It’s a mix of the classic Davy’s vintage decor with a few modern flourishes. Either way, it’s ideal for a meeting, a casual lunch, or a superbly catered Davy’s private party or reception.

We must admit that Davy’s Truckles is somewhat distinct from other Davy’s wine bars in London. Normally thoroughgoing Victorian in their look and feel, Davy’s Truckles off Bury Place in historic Bloomsbury has a more modern look on its ground floor level. But don’t despair, their downstairs room retains the usual old-fashioned charm we’ve come to expect from Davy’s – you can still hang up your flintlock and enjoy a pewter tankard of good British ale before you head upstairs for a meal. Or, simply hire out the entire downstairs for your next Dickens Society get-together! Dishes at Truckles are signature Davy’s – old-school classic with just enough contemporary flair to keep us modern Londoners happy. Chicken liver pâté, potted shrimps and toast, Cumberland sausages holding their own as bangers to Davy’s Truckles’ creamy mash. Or go ahead and carve a slice of Alderton ham served with hot buttered potatoes and piccalilli.
