About Eviva Taverna

Eviva Taverna brings a little sun-kissed Greek hospitality to Nottingham city centre’s historic Lace Market area. Set in a handsome 19th-century red-brick building down Barker Lane, it can be difficult to imagine the vibrant Greek-Cypriot dining and party scene inside given the restaurant and club’s very British setting. Though Eviva Taverna is something of a specialist when it comes to hosting parties – be they birthdays, hen and stag nights or corporate bashes – the restaurant remains a great place for casual dining, with famous mezze platters and one of Nottingham’s best selections of vegetarian Mediterranean dishes.

Further Information

You can make a meal from mezze, and Eviva Taverna doesn’t fail guests looking to dine in this eminently social, very Mediterranean way. You can start small, with the mini mezze for two offering up dips, pita, keftethes, dolmas and kalamari for a great price considering the restaurant’s location in the city centre and the Lace Market. But why be timid considering that Eviva Taverna is one of the most up-for-it Greek Cypriot party and dining spots in Nottingham? Dive on in and go for the five-course vegetarian mezze, the specialty mezze, or the lavish eight-course Eviva King’s Mezze, this last representing the full riches of Greek-Cypriot and Mediterranean cuisine.

Besides Eviva Taverna’s generous mezze platters, famous in Nottingham, there are plenty of traditional Greek-Cypriot starters and main courses for you to enjoy. Make sure you order a Greek salad, a default accompaniment to any meal here, before opting for one of the Greek main courses or souvlakia. Classic moussaka gives way to stiffado stew, tender and slow-cooked lamb kleftico, calamari and prawn saganaki, and the vegetarian Greek tavvas, a seasonal selection of vegetables cooked to Eviva’s own recipe and served on a bed of pilaf rice. The lamb, chicken, pork, and beef steak souvlakia are famously good – opt for the Eviva mixed souvlakia for a taste of all the chargrilled goodness you could wish for. And, if you’re looking to celebrate, you can’t past Eviva’s Barker Lane premises, in the heart of the city centre’s Lace Market area as a host for your party; with capacity for up to 75 guests and, naturally, contacts in the Greek dancing community, private events here go off with a bang. Or at least a broken plate or three.

Really good meal and atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and obliging, the chef came to check our food was to our liking and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine when he found out we were celebrating my daughter's graduation. Highly recommended and also good value for a city centre restaurant.

We've been going to Eviva Taverna since the early 1980's - not as often as we would like, due to time, distance etc, but we love the food. It was the first real restaurant we took our children to when they were aged about 6 and 9 (the variety on Mezze really suited them) and I think both took friends here for 16th birthdays, and they wanted to go again for their 26th/29th birthdays. So Eviva Taverna has always had a special place in our family's celebrations, even if we can't go very often.

The restaurant is in the basement of the building, and decorated as one would expect with Greek flags and paintings of sunny Greek places. Greek music (recorded) was playing the whole time which can be a bit samey, but you wouldn't expect anything else! Our coats were taken to be hung up, which I thought was a nice touch. The menu is typical Greek as expected (just as we like), and reasonably priced too. We were served by cheerful staff and not hurried at all. It's maybe a little shabby decoratively, and disabled access could be an issue, but if you like good company and good honest Greek food, I recommend Eviva Taverna.

It was the best meal out we had had as a .family in a long time. The staff treated us like friends and family from the moment we walked through the door until leaving. The atmosphere was authentic and relaxed with the added twist of the beautiful dancer later in the evening. The food was delicious, so freshly prepared and a menu to suit all tastes, we had quite a few vegetarians in the group as well as meat eaters! Thank you Eviva Taverna for a wonderful evening we will definitely be back!

Fab food, nice atmosphere. Importantly not sat on top of each other if you are going for a relaxed meal with your better half! I personally respect when a restaurant gives you space so your not having to listen in on other diners conversations! Busy when we arrived at 6pm but staff on hand immediately and the food just kept coming at an even pace throughout. Perhaps a bit more fish, prawns etc on the kings meze would have made me feel like the extra £4.00 p.p was worth it but this would be my only moan.

Chose this restaurant as it was only a short walk away from Motorpoint Arena. But we are also fans of Greek food. We were not disappointed!!! Food was fantastic, service was excellent... we are definitely going back! Well worth the trip back to Nottingham from Leicester just to eat here!

We really liked this restaurant. Greek environment, welcoming people, and good food! The portions are filling for both starters and main course. We'll definitely go back to Eviva Taverna!

Nice atmosphere & friendly staff. Chose mixed meze menu & made staff aware we were on a schedule as going to a show, which was not a problem. First few courses came through fine & were tasty but wait got longer between & when the main kebabs finally came (1 1/4 hours after we sat down) they were hugely disappointing - dry. We had to leave after this so didn't get to try dessert. Shame, wasn't up to the standard I've had here before

Good service and a nice selection of well prepared food. Going on a Friday night, I'd expected it to be busy but there was just enough people to create a little atmosphere. Having the special Meze gave us a nice selection of Greek food without over endulging.

Excellent service, good food, nice atmosphere, good location away from fast food outlets, what more could you ask for. Had a mezze from the set menu which provided us all with more than enough food.

I had high hopes ,of a good evening ,as I went there some time back ,but was disappointed with the service and the small portions and high cost of the drinks. we had the mezze, but it was not up to standard compared to other greek restaurants ,I felt that a lot of the food normally associated with this was missing, i left still feeling hungry and disappointed.

It would have been cosier if the lighting hadn't been so bright - we had a spotlight aimed right at our eyes. The waiter was very attentive and the food was really nice....quite a lot of it though : -)

The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant itself was beautiful, it made me feel as though I was actually in Greece. Will definitely be coming back again soon.
