More about Fat Lorenzo's, London

There are few places committed to doing the New York-Italy fusion thing beyond the big-name chain restaurants. In this way then, Fat Lorenzo’s is a refreshing change from the super-serious Italian places in the capital. The food here is fun and comforting, delicious too, but there’s nothing staid about this place. A short walk from Oxford Circus in the heart of London’s Soho on Clipstone Street is everything you want from a laidback restaurant: great food, sensible prices and a sense of humour.

The first thing that strikes the guests at Clipstone Street’s Fat Lorenzo’s is probably the name. Taken from the story of Luigi, an Italian immigrant to New York city in the 19th century. Luigi, down on his luck, spotted a capuchin monkey with a surprising degree of rhythm and saw a way to make money. He became Lorenzo’s (the monkey, naturally) organ grinder for a monkey that, aside from his prenatural gifts for dance, also had a fairly discerning palate and hence Luigi had to learn his way around the kitchen to keep his star attraction happy. Today, in Soho, those recipes are on display. From buttermilk pancakes for breakfast, lighter soups and salads for lunch and a very serious pizza offering (and then some) for the evening, there can be no better way to spend the day indulging in comfort food than at Fat Lorenzo’s.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was really excellent. We had a wonderful meal there - the burrinis are highly recommended and I'd definitely go back again

Great atmosphere, lovely food and the service was impeccable! Finished off by limoncello and a chat with the owner.. What a lovely night!!! The restaurant is tucked away and not huge but cosy and comfortable!

Very friendly staff and delicious Italian food! I went with friends for my birthday and received a free glass of Prosecco and a wonderful singing of Happy Birthday when my tiramisu was brought out with a candle on top.

We were in London for the New Years celebrations, & booked fat Lorenzo's after reading trip advisor reviews.. We weren't disappointed.. Our table was ready waiting for us when we arrived.. We were seated promptly.. It had a nice cosy atmosphere and the staff were lovely & very attentive, David the (owner/waiter) was happy to go through the menu with you if you were unsure and even happy to adjust to your liking i.e. Meat balls were a main meal but a member of our party wanted them as a starter, not a problem.. His daughter wanted the smoked salmon but wasn't sure if she would like the bits that went with it.. Not a problem they would leave them off if she required.. The food was excellent from start to finish, beautifully cooked and presented.. David was up for a joke or too also and went along with an on going joke.. Which had us all in stitches. At the end of the meal we ordered sambuca shots.. Unbeknown to us David had run out.. so he went on the hunt for some.. 3 shops later he was back & we was given them on the house.. Top restaurant, top food & definitely top service.. Needless to say next time we are back in London we will be visiting here again.. Thank you Fat Lorenzo's :))

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The food, the wine selection, the ambiance, the staff, everything is excellent. This was our second visit as a family and we purposely came back the next time we were in London. Despite the restaurant being a lot busier second time, we were treated with the same attention and speed of service. Both my younger daughters (6 & 9) loved it too and the menu catered very well for them. If you are in the area (or even if you aren't) and like Italian food or any type of quality hand cooked food, you MUST visit Fat Lorenzo's.

We found out about his restaurant via TripAdvisor, many reviews talked about the atmosphere of the place and were right. The food here is good, but the atmosphere is excellent. The service is good and very friendly. We spent a nice evening there. Only issue was with Quandoo itself: I made a last-minute reservation via the site and got a confirmation that it was OK, but when we showed up, they had not received anything. Apparently, there's is not a good information transfer between Quandoo and the restaurants. So be aware, and confirm the reservation by phone! Luckily, the nice people there managed to find a table for us anyway.

We were there at lunchtime on a Monday for my husbands birthday. Although it was fairly quiet when we arrived it did not spoil the experience. The food was great and the staff exceptional, particularly Alexandra, who was very friendly and helpful. We'll be back when we can. Thank you.
