You know a family-run Italian restaurant is good when it manages to establish itself in more than one location, which is exactly what Galo’s Kitchen has succeeded in doing. With two locations, this particular one being on Montpellier Street in the very heart of Harrogate, Galo’s chefs are vastly experienced and even more passionate about what they believe is the best cuisine in the world. As such, the Italian food here radiates quality and will have you smiling in a way that few other Italian restaurants in Harrogate can replicate. Just be warned – Galo’s Kitchen is very popular, so it would be wise to reserve your table in advance.
As we already mentioned, at Harrogate’s Galo’s Kitchen you will find extremely passionate chefs who have quite a few home recipes flying around, and this special touch certainly make the dishes even more delicious. But before we get to those, much like Harrogate itself, the Galo’s Kitchen dining space is chic and classic. It’s a small enough space but you can expect white tablecloths and napkins, an elaborately tiled floor and lots of light inside. On Montpellier Street, this is an ideal space to enjoy proper Italian cooking with your nearest and dearest. So welcoming is the space, in fact, that you may find yourself staying for much longer than originally planned.
Galo’s Kitchen is fit for any occasion owing to an impressive a la carte menu, a set menu, a children’s menu and a wealth of wines and desserts. Begin with something from the modest selection of gourmet starters – it’s quality over quantity here – then consider pasta or risotto for mains, perhaps. The tagliatelle with fresh lamb ragu, pecorino cheese and a garlic crumb is our pick of the bunch, but all are fantastic. Of course, Galo’s Kitchen also offer homemade pizzas and main dishes of fish or meat so you’d be wise to try the 35-day aged fillet steak with a red wine sauce and your choice of sides. Oh, and one final thing, pizzas and penne pasta or spaghetti dishes can all be requested gluten-free. Bellisimo!
Superb independently owned Italian restaurant. The restaurant in Montpellier Quarter has a lovely relaxed ambiance and the food is superb quality. The menu is extensive and includes the usual pastas and pizzas as well as fresh fish and meat dishes etc beautifully cooked and presented. The desserts are "to die for". I would recommend for any informal or formal occasion.
One of the best Italian restaurants we have been to in a long time. The restaurant itself was tastefully decorated and the service was excellent, not rushed in any way. Every course we had was lovely and well presented, would definately go again.
Excellent as on previous occasions the food and service cannot be faulted
