Steakhouses are immensely popular in London, but none more so than Goodman. With three restaurants across the city in Mayfair, City and Canary Wharf – this one being on Maddox Street in Mayfair – Goodman defines quality and dedication to craft. Goodman will be the first to tell you that they make their own life difficult so that your steak is absolutely the best it can be, which means a thorough process that starts with expert sourcing and ends with specially imported charcoal ovens. Goodman Mayfair London is perfectly placed for pre-theatre dining – it’s close to Regent Street, Oxford Street and Hanover Square, as well as Oxford Circus tube station – so do make a reservation in advance.
The appeal of Goodman steakhouses in City and Canary Wharf, and indeed this one in Mayfair is wonderfully simple: great steak, great wine and great people. At Goodman you’re assured of the best beef in London and of the best restaurant experience, safe in the knowledge that your steak has been sourced from trusted farmers, aged in-house, cut for service and then cooked to your specifications by chefs that care about what they’re doing. An occasion at Goodman Mayfair London on Maddox Street – just a short walk from Oxford Circus tube – is certainly not one you’ll quickly forget.
The strength of a steakhouse is, of course, in the steaks, so allow us to walk you through Goodman Mayfair London’s best. The menu here in Mayfair is refined and the beef on it at any one time accords to what is of the highest quality in the ageing room when the chefs start. Fillet, ribeye, sirloin and ever-changing bone-in specialties can be expected, as well a selection of other favourites – Barnsley chop, whole-roasted poussin, the Goodman burger and various seafood options – that change often, too. All of this, as well as Goodman’s extensive wine list, make this London steakhouse a true gem.
Had a lovely meal in Goodman Mayfair. Service was efficient, friendly and very helpful. Our waitress gave us some really good recommendations. The food was impeccable. Will definitely be returning!
Best steaks in London without question. Order from the board -- fresh cut steaks every day. This place is a league beyond Hawksmoor or Gaucho.
The Service was amazing. We got to go and see the dry ageing room and the chef showed us how much effort they put into cooking the steak. A truly memorable experience. Thank you.
Absolutely excellent - great atmosphere, wine, service and the meat is out of this world. I'd definitely recommend trying this place. Go for the british cuts...
First off; amazing food. Literally stunning steaks! So why 3 stars? Décor is atrocious, really dark, cold feeling, uninviting. The wine list is great on reds but minimal number of whites and really weak selection. The biggest let down though is the service. Too relaxed, slow and not attentive enough by far, poor when it was a very quiet evening. For example: - Sat at the bar, 3 bar tenders chatting for a few minutes completely ignored us, until I asked for the drinks list - Move to the table, given menus but no explanation of their house cuts, or what was available that day, had to walk to the other side of the restaurant to read the available cuts board, only after we did this twice were we offered the small available cuts board for the table - Our waiter was very helpful but we had to catch his attention to request water or wine refills (neither our water or wine bottle were at the table) - Two receptionists at the front desk, and other staff at the service station immediately behind it, including the manager, did nothing but chat, banter and joke around the entire time. This is in the middle of the booths where we and others we sat - It was my partner's birthday and they were extremely slow at bringing the congratulations plate they offered when confirming the booking. So much so I thought they had simply forgotten; so we requested the bill, paid, finished drinks, used the facilities, requested coats from the cloakroom and were about to leave. Easily 20 minutes from asking for the bill when they presented it and asked us to stay a few more minutes - The final bit, they wrote happy 33rd on the plate when it was his 26th. Brilliant Would I go back? Only for work or larger groups because the food is stunning. For couples or smaller groups of friends and as the service was poor, I would go to Hawksmoor, 28-50 Wine Workshop or Jean-George any day.
By far the best customer service I have ever had in any restaurant in my life. Unfortunately I did not manage to ask the name of our waitress, but she is the bald lady with tattoos. An extremely nice person and went out of her way to make our experience enjoyable. We had hard time seeing the blackboard for specials so they actually brought one right next to us for easier reading, and she showed us the different cuts and meats as well on a plate, making it much easier for us to choose what to get. She also made sure that we had everything we needed at any time and made sure our glass was never empty. We definitely felt very welcome. The meat and sides we got were absolutely fantastic as well, saying they were delicious would be an understatement. It all came out a little expensive, but that is the price of a good steak and I think it was all well worth the price.
We had a big group of 9 and the restaurant had told us previously that it would be a bit of a squeeze as they had a lot of bookings that same evening. When we arrived, it was defiantly cosy! After being at the table for about 20 minutes one of the waitresses came over explaining that she was just waiting for another group to leave and that we could move to their table if we wanted to. She did this off her own back and we all thought it was very thoughtful and helpful of her. After about 20 minutes, she returned to the table apologising for the delay and explaining that the group still hadn't left. We decided that we would just stay where we were seated as we had already ordered and had settled with our drinks. The service was great and if there was even a slight delay they would come and keep us updated. The food was lovely. I would highly recommend the mac and cheese! Be warned the sides portions are not small, most of us struggled to finish it all. We had a lovely evening and was very happy with the service provided.
Goodman, as always, never disappoints. However, this time our visit was even more special as I have ended up going with my 'carnivores' son who agreed to share the Porterhouse with me. Fantastic service, delicious side orders, triple cooked hand cut chips are awesome, and of course, the meat. At the end of our dinner, Ben, the Manager on the day, upon our request, gave us a tour of the kitchen showing us the meat aging room where he explained the details of the aging process as well as the source of the meat. Although there is plenty of information on Goodman's website, Ben still took the time to explain it to us and then to our surprise took us next to the ovens where the meat is cooked. It was a fantastic experience and in our opinion, Goodman is, if not the best, one of the best Steak Houses in London. We will definitely visit again on our next visit to London.
This was our first time dining at Goodmans and definatley won't be our last, usually we're frequenters of the Hawksmoor restaurants as big lovers of steaks but our waitress( whose name I'm gutted to say I can't recall) for the night at Goodmans was as outstanding as the meal (which is where Hawksmoor have dropped the ball)Our table was allowed plenty of time to choose each dish and she was extremely confident with giving advice when asked what her choice would be and explaining all the cuts and different flavours of meat.We were also given sufficient enough time in between each course to enjoy our food rather than feeling rushed. My only criticism would be their not very strong on there choice of starters and we had to stand at the door while waiting for our table instead of making sure we could of sat at the bar as we were a party of five.
After getting rave reviews from friends and family about Goodmans we decided to give it a go for our anniversary and were not dissapointed. Nice atmosphere as we entered and our table all ready for us. Fortunately we had been briefed by our son on what to order although our waitress was very helpful and friendly which is always a bonus. Food arrived arrived quickly but not in a rushed way and we set about it. The steak we chose was the bone in ribeye medium cooked to perfection and the best ever taste accompanied by truffle chips creamed spinnach and garlic mushrooms im dribbling just thinking about it. Overall fantastic meal and very good staff even brought us a slice of anniversary gateau on the house thanks for a great night guys
