Thinking about making a Hansa's booking?

The eponymous Hansa Dabhi has been a trailblazer since she opened her North Street doors in 1986. Leeds, and frankly the rest of Yorkshire, has been benefitting from her innovative vegetarian food ever since. Dabhi blends traditional Gujarati Indian flavours with a sprinkling of influences from her childhood spent in the East of Africa. Crowned Leeds curry chef of the year in 2010 and a host of other accolades to boot has secured Hansa’s places as a mainstay in the Yorkshire dining scene.

When Hansa Dabhi opened a Gujarati, vegetarian-only restaurant on a quiet corner of North Street in Leeds, back when Thatcher was still in office, the dining scene was a different place. By now, vegetarianism is mainstream and there are plenty of places offering great veggie-friendly options, but more than 25 years ago things were completely different. It is a testament to the excellent Indian and Gujarati food and service at Hansa’s that the restaurant has not just survived, but thrived and shaped local preferences in this time. Head over to Hansa’s every evening from 5pm for excellent food and a taste of the extraordinary in Leeds.
