Dear diners, for bookings for more than 4 people, please call the restaurant directly.
With a reputation for quality built up over 50 years of serving happy locals, Hendersons Vegan Restaurant are certainly no vegan band-wagon jumpers on Thistle Street. This New Town restaurant is simply a family-run place serving truly first-class food in a friendly environment. Its consistent quality and suddenly fashionable philosophy have made it known to diners well beyond Edinburgh, so you’d best book a table well in advance if you want to taste superlative vegan and vegetarian fare for yourself.
Whether vegan, vegetarian or neither, chances are you’ve heard about Hendersons already. Now operating a handful of eateries around the city, Hendersons has been serving Edinburgh delicious food for half a century now. Long before veganism was in and being vegetarian was a buzzword, Hendersons had already perfected food according to their own philosophy: delicious, handmade, satisfying and healthy. That philosophy remains strong today, meaning that their groundbreaking Hendersons Vegan Restaurant on Thistle Street in the New Town isn’t just a trendy vegan joint, but rather a favourite, family-run restaurant where carnivores and others can enjoy seriously good food and a welcoming atmosphere.
The draw of Hendersons Vegan Restaurant is becoming strong far beyond Edinburgh, attracting curious diners from across the UK and the Continent, so it’s best to book ahead if you want a taste for yourself. Perhaps the jewel in the crown is their famous vegan haggis, but Hendersons offer a classy menu that stands alongside most elegant New Town restaurants anyhow, vegetarian or not. The smoked tofu has a complexity akin to a well marbled steak, a Moroccan pomegranate salad is bursting with fresh flavours, moreish marinated olives, quality garlic bread and fine wine make it easy to forget this Thistle Street restaurant is any different from other top eateries in Edinburgh.
Great vegan food and service with a smile! Loved the vegan haggis! The cheesecake is a little sicky-sweet so go for the mango cheesecake for dessert.
We knew we were going to a vegan restaurant, but it was still weirdly surprising to see so many options that we could enjoy. Everything we had was delicious and plentiful. For a 3 course lunch in town, with drinks, ~£50 was pretty reasonable.
Fabulous vegan dining! I love Henderson’s- always a treat when I visit Edinburgh. Lovely to have a whole menu to choose from - probably shouldn’t have had the chocolate mousse but it was delicious.
