Putney’s boutique The Lodge Hotel, situated along the Upper Richmond Road, houses a less-than-well-kept secret in the form of their in-house restaurant Hide & Seed. This warm and intimate dining space is located in the hotel’s library, and adjoins an equally stylishly-decked-out bar and lounge. Londoners looking for well-curated fine dining in unusual surroundings are advised to come in and sample a few of the regularly rotated dishes that use regionally-sourced ingredients to ensure the utmost in freshness and quality.
Putney has a new addition to its up-and-coming dining, drinking, and entertainment
scene. Tucked away in Upper Richmond Road’s The Lodge Hotel is a stylishly
appointed restaurant, bar and lounge named the Hide and Seed. The venue is
situated in the hotel’s library, plushly decorated, warm and inviting. Ingredients are
locally sourced wherever possible, some from the Hotel’s Essex farm, so you know
that each and every dish on Hide & Seed’s compact, curatorial menu is seasonal,
fresh and of the highest quality.
As for the food on offer, Hide & Seed regularly rotate their dishes according to seasonal availability, but also because the kitchen is committed to the ongoing evolution of their offering. Small plates are a perfect way to start, featuring delicacies such as homemade croquettes with Spanish ham, cod, and coriander. Cheese and cantaloupe salads for the vegetarians competes with the inventive warm smoked trout with horseradish, beetroot and amaranth salad. Chef’s specials are indeed one of a kind, with unusual offerings such as Guinea fowl and 24-hour lamb tempting the curious. A unique feature of this Upper Richmond Road restaurant’s kitchen is their use of the robata grill. Hide & Seed uses a Japanese robatayaki charcoal BBQ technique to seal in the juiciness of its grilled selections – rump steak, grilled spiced chicken, or the layers used in the vegetarian Seed burger. It’s clear that The Lodge Hotel’s boutique status is only strengthened by Hide & Seed’s rather curious contribution to Putney fine dining.
Very nice restaurant with good decor, atmosphere, music and service. The food was very good although their signature dish wasn't as good as expected. My wife got the burger which was far nicer. Had a lovely time.
Lovely restaurant with great food. The service was fantastic and it has a lovely environment. The pork belly was amazing as well as the duck dumplings to start
Very good food and service Very convenient if staying in the Hotel Stayed during Wimbledon week which was great as the Hotel is very close
Excellent food and beautiful restaurant area. The menu choices were a bit light, but we had the sirloin steak and lamb chops and they were both fantastic. Lighting could have be dimmed a bit.
The menu was limited but the food was Amazing, had the prawns and the aubergine tempura to start followed by the lamb and the salmon, both were delicious as well as the creme brulee which blew our minds. Service was funny and it was handy that we had plenty of time as we had to wait a little while to have the menus and had to look for a waiter to order desert but it was worth it! Will be going back!
We asked for our table to be moved to the bar so that we could watch the football match while we ate. This was accommodated very well with the minimum of fuss and we were impressed. The bar/ waitress was stroppy all evening. It was busy and there weren't many staff but she was surly and quite difficult, bordering on being rude. There were 8 of us and we were all hotel guests - we all remarked on this. The lamb and quinoa was very disappointing and overpriced given the tiny amount of meat on offer. The burgers were satisfactory and the range of drinks was good. Overall, I would choose somewhere else to eat next time.
I've really enjoyed my experience! The place is lovely decorated, the food was really nice - I had the chicken with mushroom and rice cooked within vegetables. End up with Le chocolat which is rich in chocolate. it's too greedy to have 1 on my own as it's quite filling! Also thumbs up for vinho verde (green wine)! The service was really friendly
The food was generally good as was the service. As the restaurant part of the hotel had just had a revamp and, we understand, all staff fired, there were some teething problems, which I'm sure will be sorted out in the course of time. Nice ambience in the restaurant part.
Although booked and confirmed, the table was not ready for us. The waitress did not take/understand our order properly and there was some confusion about what was actually available. However, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and the waitress did provide a writing pad and pencil for the 6 year old in our party. Nevertheless, overall, it was not a good experience.
A good menu, with some bold choices of vegetables (purple potatoes!)! The ambience is great, and the staff mostly very helpful. The food was tasty, and presented beautifully.
