Fusion food is great, but sometimes it’s more rewarding to stick to what you know. Iskele knows Turkish food, inside out. Others don’t. Take the tube to Hendon Central, hop on down to Church Road, and you will see why Turkish cuisine doesn’t really need to be meddled with. To get you going, Iskele lays out a spread of traditional starters, of course including a garlicky hummus and delicious manca of spinach and yoghurt, as well as a long list of lesser known hot and cold entrees that broaden your knowledge of and probably respect for the canon. But be sure to leave some room for the mains, because Iskele dishes up delicious seafood, vegetarian and meat meals as well as yoghurt-based creations and lovingly simmered casseroles – we recommend the hunkar begendi, melt-in-your-mouth lamb and a rich sauce sitting on soft aubergine.
always welcomed there, tables not to close together, The waiter immediately puts bread, and two bowls of dips on the table. We have learned not to have a first course because the main courses are so large, but we nevertheless succomb to a hot meze or cold meze plate to share and decide nt to do it again! .
