The nose knows, and once you smell the freshly baked bread, handmade pastas and stone-cooked pizzas, it’ll tell you that Isolabella in London’s Holborn is a seriously great Italian restaurant. Order yourself a glass of San Leo, Isolabella’s house wine, and take a starter like the classic Caprese salad, the insalate di mare (seafood salad) or the schiacciata (pizza bread topped with herbs and garlic. For your main dish, go for one the delicious pizzas – think quattro formaggi, vegetariana and margherita – or try one of the pasta specialties like penne pesto, spaghetti carbonara or linguine gamberoni. There are many more options to choose from – make a reservation at Isolabella and sample them all.
We have been to Isolabella a few times before and last night's trip on a hot evening was as excellent as ever. We arrived at a busy time and got a table which, at first, looked as though it might be in a dark back room but turned out to be under a lovely, open roof light so a cool breeze made the atmosphere excellent. They are almost always busy and so the noise was just right to allow private chat without having to strain to hear. The waiting staff are pleasant and not at all stuffy. We stuck to almost an formulaically Italian meal of starters of livers and mozzarella balls; mains of alio, olio e peperoncino and spaghetti bolognese; desserts limoncello ice cream and aranza caramallate; wine their slightly more expensive chianti. An almost corny selection by us but we have tried everything else previously and it was excellent! Recommended.
Food is always good here and service is nice as well. Love the atmosphere. Will definitely come back again. For me, the best Italian in London.
Excellent, the food was really good as was the waiting service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family and visit again in future.
This is a great restaurant. On the night they were going with two groups - one unexpected - but the care and attention of the staff was first class, as was the food.
The first time we visited this restaurant was a few years ago and we were the only people in, on a Friday night! So we booked a table rather tongue in cheek. But very glad we did. On the first Friday night in December it was heaving, with two birthday parties happening. I ordered the cold roast veg starter which was OK but a bit bland. There were no individual pepper mills and we were served with the minimal amount... Next was a butterfly chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce with mash. The mash was wet and sloppy, whereas the chicken was burnt, bitter and hard on one side. That side was put down onto the plate so it wasn't immediately apparent. We were not offered any parmesan cheese, tho' noticing that it was ready grated and served with a teaspoon, I wasn't too disappointed! Had to ask a couple of times for some tap water to accompany an expensive bottle of Italian white wine. All in all an expensive average experience. Expected more, following our previous visit, but we learned that the restaurant is under different management...
Isolabella is a very welcoming restaurant with an exemplary service. The food is excellent, but for my opinion the restaurant is very comfortable where it is possible to enjoy the company of your fellow diners without feeling pressurized to leave or constant background music.
We had an enjoyable meal at Isolabella. We were immediately greeted on our arrival, shown to our table and offered a drink. The food was delicious, the service was prompt and there was always somebody available if we required anything further.
Food was excellent, very tasty and great value. A warm welcome with great service. Its a while since I've been to an Italian restaurant that has been quite as good as Isolabella - effortless...
We had a very nice lunch. The food was faultless & the restaurant had a pleasant ambience. The only problem was with the wine. The waiter was a bit slow bringing some red wine to the table (my wife, who thinks her forgot, had to remind him). He also almost removed a bottle of white wine from the ice bucket which had not been finished. Overall it was a good meal & we will certainly be going back.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed are time at Isolabella and definitely recommend this place to others. Friendly staff which made our time at this restaurant enjoyable along side the great food!!
Beautiful setting, very friendly & efficient staff. They catered to my multiple allergies with kindness, efficiency & discretion. In the main the food (chicken livers as starters, halibut and escalopes as mains were nicely presented & well cooked. However the lemon sauce of the escalope was so acidic I ate the escalope off the side plate to avoid the sauce! The zabaione taken as desert was tasty, but needed to be whipped a little lighter.
Great atmosphere with particular note to the interior of the place, which those arching walls which took me back to the Italian classic trattoria and restaurants. Fantastic menu with wide variety of food from the antipasti till the digestivi. Suitable for vegeterians too as there is a wide selection in the menu. Well presented and polite members of staff. Will definitely come back and strongly suggest Isola Bella in Holborn to everyone.
Great restaurant. I immediately noticed how nice and modern it looked. Very clean and well lit. We were immediately seated and offered water straight away as it was a very hot day. Very good menu with a large selection. I thoroughly enjoyed my main of salmon tagliatelle and would recommend this. I will definitely come here again.
Isolabella is a great Italian restaurant. Good food. Excellent value for money and very friendly people. The winelist has a nice variety of wines and are moderately priced.
Visited Isolabella for a birthday meal on a saturday evening. There was great choice, great food and greats service. All at a reasonable price Thanks very much
Isolabella is a lovely restaurant with friendly, professional service and a delicious traditional Italian menu located in a quiet area a very short walk from Holborn tube. We truly enjoyed our meal.
Food very good and service excellent, would definitely return here. Had a really pleasant evening with family and we were looked after well. Only downside is they add a service charge on the bill and would prefer to choose what tip to allow although this seems to be commonplace in restaurants nowadays.
Food good and authentic. Service also good. Tables not too close together - decor minimalist - busy and noisy - and that was mid week - would eat at Isolabella again
Isolabella is a good Italian restaurant with a nice atmoshere and friendly service. They have a nice wine list. The saltimbocca I had as a main course was very good.
An excellent evening with very good friends made even better by the quality of the food and service. Originally booked for 7pm but got 'stuck' in the pub opposite so popped into the restaurant and they agreed to put our booking back by half an hour. Very accommodating. We certainly be going again as soon as possible!
I choose Isolabella to take out out-of-town friends out for dinner near their hotel. We all had a very nice evening. The food, wine and service were impeccable.
Isolabella is an Italian restaurant with a very good atmosphere and good tasteful food. The winelist is not very extensive, but the wines are carefully selected and nice.
Everything about our dining experience at Isolabella was first-rate: service was conscientious and friendly, the wine was well chosen and reasonably priced, the food was excellently prepared.
We had a nice meal. However, we live locally and found that the majority of other diners were tourists. So although the restaurant was busy, it lacked a certain atmosphere. Also, I asked for a side of "deep fried potatoes", as was written on the menu, and the waiter, I thought condescendingly turned to me and and said "you mean chips". I didn't like that.
The food at Isolabella was excellent and the staff were very friendly, providing great service- I would definitely recommend! Perfect for an occasion or pre-theatre dinner.
Our favorite London restaurant! With only one night in town, we chose to go back here, and were not disappointed. The food and service continue to be top-notch (even on a Monday night when they were welcoming three large groups for dinner).
Isolabella is a great restaurant. It serves quality Italian cuisine, very tasty. The staff are very friendly and it has a nice ambience. Perfect location!
Nice food and attentive service. Also, it was not noisy - some restaurants like to get "atmosphere" with piped music. Isolabella was not one of those I am glad to say.
Excellent food as always. Efficient service, nice ambience. Proper Italian cooking with lovely sauces. I've been before several times and the standard has never dropped off, including an office Christmas lunch for fifteen people, which is always a mark of excellence.
I've been here 4 times now and the food never fails to dissapoint me, I love it! Not only that, the service is so efficient and friendly, always good to have warm and welcoming service. My mum who's a picky eater loved this place so it says a lot!
The food was excellent - fresh and delicious. And the service was friendly and attentive. I reserved a table for four, but one additional person showed up at the last minute, and the restaurant was happy to accommodate us.
First night in London and came across this restaurant online and thought we'd give it a try. And it was so good. Food was excellent, staff were lovely, all at a good price! 10/10 would go again
The four of us come here roughly every six months to catch up and to sort out the world situation. During our cha we have excellent food and drink in a most relaxed atmosphere.
The service was really good. I had the white bait for starter. Presented beautifully, but unfortunately lacked any taste. The seafood risotto was really very good. Just enough room for pudding, so we shared an amaretto ice-cream. Delicious. Nice wine.
Excellent service, calm environment and good choice of well cooked, well presented dishes. Main and dessert and a bottle of wine with coffe came to £65, for London, very reasonable. We will return.
Very helpful staff in a nice busy lunchtime atmosphere. Both my colleagues were impressed with the food, which was excellent quality and well prepared. Helpful, also, with a colleague who was disabled.
Food was very good. Pasta cooked al dente so just right. Veal Saltimbocca was tender with a great sauce. Service was attentive but not overbearing. On my list of London restaurants!
Excellent, simple pizzas but very well made, staff friendly and attentive. Went on a Tuesday night so maybe lacking a bit of atmosphere but still, a great location for a quiet, tasty and well priced meal. 8/10
Great night with 3 adults & 2 kids - lovely food Staff all very friendly restaurant immaculate as always just across road from hotel so great on a rainy night
Great restaurant! service and food was excellent. As we were in a rush we needed everything served quickly and the waitress was very helpful in making this possible for us.
Loved this. It's a really good find, a traditional Italian restaurant. The lamb cutlets were tender and the sauce well seasoned. Their take on apple tart was different but Wonderful. I will definitely be going back.
Would defiantly recommend it Very friendly never rushed you and food was excellent and good service what I liked about it was your table was yours for the evening
Amazing Food, Lovely Venue, Friendly Staff The menu is great, loads of choice for all especially if your a seafood lover beer and wine choice is excellent as well
Very nice restaurant. Relatively easy to get a table as not in a touristy area. Food very reliably good, especially the fish dishes. Friendly staff. Very good wine list
Smart, airy, well laid out restaurant. Lively atmosphere with packed diners obviously enjoying themselves. Food was excellent with generous portions. Prompt, attentive service completed a very enjoyable occasion.
Lovely restaurant, very friendly and the food was fantastic. It was very busy, so glad we booked. Good vegetarian selection, would recommend the mushroom risotto, it was delicious.
Lovely food and lovely waitresses at a lovely price. The atmosphere is very welcoming and open all day, which made it ideal for our pre-theatre meal! Would recommend.
Visited at lunchtime. Great service - attentive, efficient and professional. Good food - the mushroom and gorgonzola starter was fantastic. Nice atmosphere, reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again.
Classic Italian menu. Friendly and warm service. Pasta cooked to perfection and a delivered with a smile. Would gladly go out of my way to eat here again.
Great buzz/atmosphere starters were good - melon/Parmalat ham and calamari with excellent Garlic dip. Mains were chicken and mushroom carbonate, which was superb and smoked salmon tagliatelle which was OK. Wine was OK.
