There are few better places to find fine Chinese cuisine in the Square Mile than Kirin on London’s College Hill. Ideally placed between Mansion House and Cannon Street tube stations, this is the place to get excellent Chinese food for a business lunch or after work bite. Putting in long hours? Fear not, Kirin deliver in the area, including to your office, if that’s what you need. Kirin are committed to making sure that nothing stand in the way of your much-needed brain fuel.
Kirin on London’s College Street in the City is a sumptuously furnished Chinese restaurant, as suitable for a quick lunch bite as a business meeting or a blowout meal at the end of the week. The team know a thing or two about dim sum, so start there before moving on to the heartier main dishes. Or go tapas style, and pick from a number of smaller plate dishes as you sip a cocktail.
As one would expect for a Chinese restaurant in the Square Mile, Kirin has nothing in common with the kind of takeaway Asian places you find further out of the city, this is a proper restaurant with real culinary ambition, this is central London afterall. The kitchen’s capabilities are showcased in dishes like shredded pig’s ear in spiced oil or traditional seafood steamboats (Chinese hot pot). Those in the College Street area are fortunate to have a restaurant which combines excellence in dining, great quality drinks and a superlatively convenient location for those living and working in the City.
Food was excellent although the menu was a little difficult to follow. Its in a great location in the City and the restaurant has a lovely ambience and is very clean in all areas. Unfortunately the experience was let down by the poor service. They were not particularly attentive and did not at any time return to ask if the food was okay or if we required any thing further. We had to flag the waiters whenever we wanted anything. We waited 45 minutes to receive the bill after having asked for it several times and had to go up to the bar in order to pay as we were just being ignored. The restaurant was indeed very full with lots of large parties which arrived after us but this is a poor excuse in my view for the service we received. No offer to deduct the service from the bill was made which was very disappointing given that they did acknowledge that the service fell far short of what would be considered acceptable.
Nice environment and food. Good location - not far from Cannon Street station, located in a quiet street. Good and delicate food - not as heavy as other Chinese places.
Nice place but even not as nice as its service, no problem with either Chinese or English. was definitely an impressive experience. don't miss it
