Up on Manilla Street, close to the junction with Westferry Road, Lime Bar & Restaurant has been serving up traditional Indian food in a sleek, modern setting since 2005, so it’s about time you took the trip yourself.

Lime Bar & Restaurant’s Manilla Street premises are uncompromising in terms of decor. Chic and stylish, wraparound banquettes offer privacy for intimate dinner dates while leather-upholstered communal seating arrangements are perfect for larger gatherings. And banquets are often held at this Indian restaurant, catering to many business functions – not surprising given Lime’s proximity to the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf. Casual diners are just as well catered to, however, and the menu is likely to please the most discerning of South Asian food fans.

Go for Lime Bar & Restaurant’s generous tandoori mixed grill to begin with, especially if you have a lot of mouths to feed. This sumptuous platter features lamb chops, chicken and lamb tikka, tandoori chicken, sheek kebab and king prawns, all flame-grilled in the traditional Indian clay oven. Lime also makes the most of London’s famous fish markets to bring fresh seafood to the table – Bengal fish bhuna, king prawn karahi or jalfrezi – making the restaurant’s appropriately maritime isle of Dogs setting a haven for lovers of South Asian seafood. Otherwise, all the classic curries, biryani and sundries are on the cards here.
