L’Osteria 57 Bloomsbury is by no means the only Italian restaurant in this part of London, but it’s certainly one of the most delicious. Located on the corner of Northington Street and Grays Inn Road, L’Osteria 57 is charming and cosy and serves an impressive selection of pizzas alongside classic Italian mains and pasta dishes. Quality is definitely the approach, rather than quantity, so you won’t be overwhelmed with choice like at some Italian restaurants in Bloomsbury, but you can rest assured that your food has been made with passion and love. L’Osteria 57 is impossible to walk past and ignore because it’s always got an inviting buzz about it. Reservations are a good idea.
L’Osteria 57 is a quirky Italian restaurant in terms of decor. It feels quite rustic but remains very stylish indeed – sort of a cross between a cafe and a restaurant in the way it’s laid out. What this means is an intimate dining space where you can always hear the humming of people sipping glasses of really good wine. It’s a lovely place to sit, before you’ve even got to the food, and you’ll find it on the corner of Northington Street and Grays Inn Road. Of course, the food is what you’re there for, and a meal L’Osteria 57 is best begun with some classic antipasto misto or the trio di bruschetta before moving onto your main.
It’s fair to say L’Osteria 57 are particularly good at cooking pizza, with dough that’s bang on and toppings that are classic – pizza Napoli with anchovies and capers, anyone? – and it’s the same story with pasta. Expect classic dishes like penne all’amatriciana as well as indulgent linguine with prawns and calamari. Finish off with a panna cotta and it’s not hard to see why L’Osteria 57 Bloomsbury is one of our favourite Italian restaurants in this part of London.
