About Ma Goa

While they may call the nation Mother India, down ni Putney there is only Ma Goa. Suitably diminuated and, indeed, diminutive, this is a properly authentic Goan restaurant in South London, with a menu that encapsulates all that is good about the southwestern state. They’ve been in business since 1993 – and there is no recommendation like longevity in the London Indian restaurant scene – serving superb Goan food, so let us talk you through a few of the specialities that you can expect to come across at their location on Upper Richmond Road. Begin with Sorpotel, a dish of spiced lamb’s liver with pork belly – Goa is predominantly Christian and pig is definitely on the menu – followed by a vindaloo, the region’s best known export or a seafood biryani with flaked salmon, prawns, squid and mussels, cooked with South Indian spices. This is only a small flavour of what you can expect to come across: book a table at Ma Goa, set a course for Putney and get ready to taste something special.

Delicious food with craft beers on tap that complimented the curry. We have been eating at Ma Goa for many years and it has maintained high standards, reinventing itself as tastes change. Highly recommended.

When I was looking for an Indian restaurant in Putney I read the reviews for Magoa which set my taste buds going. We visited as a party of 5, three of whom were friends from Poland who do not normally have access to Indian food where they live. They found the food delicious, from the starters to the mains and every served dish was returned as a clean plate. The ambience in the restaurant is very nice as well. The door to the garden terrace and the front door were both open and the air-con was on making it a bit too cool. A polite request to have it switched off brought immediate action to do so. Service is excellent. Prices are very reasonable for such high quality food

Great food and service. Definitely coming back! Super easy to get to and the staff are very friendly and accommodating (one vegan, one that can't eat spicy food! 😂). Recommend this place 100%.

Ma Goa has been producing the best Indian food in Putney for many years. The food is far superior to "standard Westernised" Indian food provided in most UK restaurants. The lamb dishes are sensational and there are plenty of good vegetarian dishes. I have tried many other Indian restaurants but always come back to Ma Goa.

Good service, imaginative menu and great food - so much more than the usual Indian restaurant expectation. Having interesting craft beers on menu also a nice touch, although personally not much of a fan of pumpkin ale.

The restaurant is a hidden treasure in Putney. The food is excellent with a clear taste of the spices used. The staff are very friendly and are also very quick and efficient

Good food and good service but tables felt a little too close to each other. Also, was very loud because so many people in the room.
