There’s a stretch along Edgware’s High Street that has become synonymous with Romanian culture in London. First up there’s the grand, Romanian fine dining restaurant: Casa Bucovineana; next door there’s Clubul Romanesc Masons Arms, with the capacity you need for the big parties you desire; and then there’s Melody Bar & Restaurant, a smaller, more intimate setting ideal for getting the crew together for a night of the high life: buckets of sparkling European wine and some sing-along times on a state-of-the-art karaoke system.
If you’re still chomping at the bit for a spot of down-home Romanian hospitality in the heart of London – and yet another chance to rock the wireless mic over some of the hottest a capella karaoke bootlegs – then your best bet is to check out Melody Bar & Restaurant down Edgware’s High Street. Another cousin to the area’s Casa Bucovineana and Clubul Romanesc Masons Arms, Melody offers a similar (but distinct) take on the proven formula: good eastern European food, good drink, and even better singing. Add a splash of dancing and you have your evening made.
Melody Bar & Restaurant do a fantastic line in rustic Romanian cuisine: red eggs, bors lamb, and broom roast lamb with rosemary potatoes and Cozonac bread, for starters. Match that with a glowing neon bucket of iced prosecco and coke, plus a couple of tumblers with the hallowed microphones sitting in them and you’ll be doing your best impression of Babi Minune in no time. London’s Edgware is going through something of a renaissance when it comes to Romanian and eastern European nightspots, and this High Street joint is a glamorous addition to the scene.
