Fresh seafood and quality cuts of meats are the stars of the show at Edinburgh restaurant, Mussel and Steak Bar. Located in Old Town, this is a beautifully-styled restaurant that fits perfectly with the fine fare on offer. Here at West Bow, seafood and meat lovers will rejoice at the menu that is washed down perfectly with a bloody mary or mac mussel – an infusion of grouse whiskey, crabbies ginger wine and a hint of orange – or a wine of your choosing from the expertly-curated list.

The food is impeccable and the team behind Mussel and Steak Bar have outdone themselves entirely. There are starters of grilled mussels with herb or teriyaki butter, oysters from the Scottish Shetlands and Scottish blue shell mussel pots with your choice of sauce (chilli, ginger, cumin and lime or Thai red curry), as well as a dazzling steak menu. All, we assure you, are cooked to perfection and matured for minimum of 38 days and served with all the trimmings, making this Edinburgh restaurant a carnivore and seafood lovers delight. We also highly recommend sampling the seafood platter, but you’ll find Mussel and Steak Bar in Old Town where booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

We were visiting from the US and this restaurant was recommended by the staff at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel. The first time we walked in, the place was jammed, so we made a reservation online, which worked great. The restaurant is very cozy and comfortable and the staff was very attentive and did not make us wait. After our seating the staff gave us a few minutes and then asked for our drink order. We found that in several restaurants we had to wait way to long for even placing our drink order............not here, it is well run and well staffed. The food was fantastic (great mussels and steaks....no kidding right) as was the deserts. To top it off the prices were very reasonable. We did eat lunch here as well. Everything was fantastic. We recommend it very highly.

We went for the lunch menu and it was fantastic! Warm welcome at the reception and shown to our table. The waiting staff were very attentive and polite. Starter - Haggis Wellington 10/10. Main - 1/2kg mussels with chips 10/10 ( love the mussells in this place and chips are devine ) Dessert - Sticky Toffee Parfait 10/10. This place is excellent, I cannot fault it, Great food at a great price and a great location. 3 Courses and a drink for 2 people £35.

The food is absolutely divine. The steak is beautifully cooked, with hardly any fat on it. The sauces are delicious I have tried both the pepper sauce and the whiskey sauce and they are spectacular. The cheesecake for dessert I highly recommend, it is undoubtedly the best cheesecake I have ever tasted and possibly one of my favourite desserts. The service is very polite and fast, I absolutely love going here and it is so far my favourite Edinburgh restaurant.

Visited the Mussel and Steak Bar for a birthday dinner last Sunday and found the place to be very mediocre. For starters we had the oysters which were lovely then followed by the mussels which were also nice but a touch spicy. For the main we ordered the seafood platter which was a disappointment. The 'Platter' consisted mainly of mussels with one queen scallop and 2 prawns and approx. 4 cockles. We mentioned this to the waiter who simply shrugged and agreed with us. Would I dine at the Mussel and Steak again??...probably not! There are better restaurants around that provide better value for money at the same cost or cheaper!

Memorable dining experience on a rainy Edinburgh night! We had been told that Mussel and Steak Bar would be a great place to eat and we are so glad we made a reservation. The place was full, but service was prompt and the staff was fun and knowledgeable. I had mussels and frites and my husband enjoyed an spread of starters. Everything was delicious. We highly recommend this Grassmarket restaurant!
