In London but named after one of the most beautiful parts of Jamaica, Negril, we guarantee, will put a smile on your face, not least because of the splendid jerk being served up. Diners keen for spice and reggae flock to this Brixton hotspot in their numbers to enjoy simple, honest Jamaican food in one of two charming dining spaces. Go al fresco on Brixton Hill or get cosy inside, either way, the menu will wow. There’s jerk chicken chicken or fish, Caribbean curries, rice, peas and plenty of plantain. It’s hard to overstate the brilliance of the way Negril gets the simple things bang on. You have to try it now.
Dear diners, please be aware that reserved tables will be held for 15 minutes only. Thank you!
Negril is in Brixton but it’s straight outta Kingston. Actually, it’s named after, well, Negril, a beachy part of Jamaica that isn’t Kingston, but that opportunity seemed too good to miss. It’s been a London establishment for over 10 years and trust us when we say that Negril is as good now as it ever was. You can find it on Brixton Hill where the menu is based on traditional Caribbean spices and recipes which have kept loyal diners returning from day one. Seating is atmospheric and intimate, while the service, well, it’s some of the cheeriest in London, complete with an apt reggae backtrack.
The menu, ladies and gents, the menu. It’s exciting and colourful in a way that anything authentically Jamaican should be. Begin, perhaps, with the Negril special ackee and saltfish served with plantains, then roll up your sleeves and brace for the arrival of your main. Free range jerk chicken? Goat curry? Or some typically Rastafarian ital? Ital is a way of eating, not a dish, and in its purest form is entirely vegan. Try pumpkin curry or the homemade bean burger with avocado and spinach. With flavours and freshness like this, Negril is one of our favourite Jamaican eating spots in all of London, never mind Brixton. We’re excited for you, so reserve your tables now.
Lovely food, as always. Chicken curry very tasty and rice and peas great. Loved the rum punch too. Quick and helpful service too. Will definitely continue to come back!
The flavours here are great - the salt fish fritters and plantain wedges are just brilliant. The service and decor is wonderfully rustic with none of the pretentiousness one can regularly find in London.
I being bringing my mum here on Mother's Day fir a meal for years now and it's Still fabulous food, warm service and friendly people and the most authentic West Indian in London.. Negril never disappoints. Price is affordable too.
Fantastic atmosphere, lovely staff, delicious food and great cocktails! Negril is a hidden gem tucked away from the central hub of Brixton and offers up a truly fantastic experience for anyone looking for a casual, high quality restaurant.
I have lot of love for Negril as it has always provided delicious food at the right price in a relaxed, unfussed setting Ever since I lived in South London , I've tried to engineer friend meet ups at Negril when possible This hasn't changed even though I now live in Essex. Long may Negril reign as the best West Indian Kitchen in London.
I booked a table at Negril through Quandoo for 5 people a few days in advance. A few hours before I called up the restaurant to increase my booking to 9 people which was no problem. The restaurant isn't really designed for that many people but they pushed some tables together and we sat outside and enjoyed some delicious food. It was very busy and the tables were fully booked so book in advance even during the week if you can. There were only two waiters and service was a bit slow but they did the best they could considering the lack of staff. Staff were polite, smiling and unflustered throughout despite being literally rushed off their feet. Also if your party is of 5 or over you have a limited shared menu to choose from. However as mentioned previously the food was really nice and I would definitely go back one day.
Negril has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, and upon entry we were greeted warmly. Following being seated, we ordered drinks ( homemade ginger beer & lemonade), which were delicious. We tucked in to saltfish fritters, chicken curry and grilled seabass, which were truly scrumptious. I would recommend Negril to everyone, you won't be disappointed.
We had an excellent time in Negril, the only thing I can critique is the time it took for our meal to be served. We booked the earliest time possible (5pm) because we wanted to have dinner with our 3 year old, unfortunately the restaurant had just opened and it took well over an hour to get our meal. The restaurant staff were very helpful and kept us informed at all times. Some of our side dishes were offered to us earlier as starters, and this helped to make the wait less of an issue.
Negril was a fabulous night out. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. I would highly recommend Negril food fab, ambiance super please go a visit Negril
Have always had great meals & service at Negril. Staff are friendly, attentive & knowledgeable about the menu. Am looking forward to my next visit. Thanks Negril for giving my friend & me a good time.
