Great food, brilliant views out to sea and very friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Definitely recommend to to all my friends. Get yourselves along there.
I have been here during a lovely stay in Edinburgh. I live in London and I was looking for a quiet spot in front of the sea. This place has been suggested by a friend of mine and the experience has been wonderful. Amazing location, food and environment. Highly suggested!
Choice, quality of food and service was excellent. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Also child friendly which is an added bonus. Certainly go back again soon.
The food was excellent and the service is also very pleasant. I recommend the white house wine. The view on the Firth is lovely. To note the clean toilets.
An mainly enjoyable meal for 6 people in the busy and picturesque Old Chain Pier with a couple of exceptions. We requested a swap of the vegetable accompaniment to the Sea Bass (due to a dietary requirement of one of the party) and were told that the Chef did not have any other veg to swap it with (something I found difficult to believe in a busy restaurant). We were then told that we couldn't have anything off the festive menu as we hadn't pre booked it - fair comment until we realised that the Turkey dinner was in fact on the a la carte menu as well. We were then advised that we would have to wait for this to be prepared which we happily did. When the Turkey dinners arrived there was no cranberry sauce and no gravy, and as Turkey is quite dry it really needed something with it.
A friend and I went there for our evening meal and we had the best cullen skink I have ever tasted followed by a huge portion of mussels - fab! We returned on Sunday for brunch and the full Scottish breakfast was enormous - it set me up for the whole day. What a wonderful restaurant - friendly and helpful staff who were more than able to cater for my friend who has to have a gluten free diet. The views over the Firth of Forth are an added bonus to an already great wee place to eat!
Fantastic pub! Friendly staff, great range of drinks and the food was delicious - Will most definitely be back for more. Not a 6 star review as when we sat down for an early meal we were told immediately that they needed the table in 90 minutes - not a massive deal as this place is obviously popular and busy (for good reason) but to be told as soon as we were sitting down immediately put us under pressure to order and eat quickly. Again, not that big a deal and I would recommend this pub to everyone for a great drink and great food - reserve early!!.
We had a very enjoyable evening in the Old Chain Pier having a meal with friends. The food is very good and there is plenty of choice. It's lovely being able to eat and look at the sea at the same time.
We arrived to a friendly welcome, the staff were bubbly and knowledgeable about the menu. Both the starter & main course were beautifully presented, definitely freshly made to order, and delicious. The setting was stunning, with wonderful sea views. We were so pleased to have found such a little gem, and would go again if we were here long enough. Thank you for such a wonderful birthday meal xx
The staff were friendly but not vey aware of what was going.on around them. Trying to get their attention wasnt easy. The food was very good. The service was OK. The waitress was very forgetful and we had to keep asking and reminding her. She was new and very apologetic. She had a health problem that was affecting her concentration and performance. When the bill arrived it was wrong. We sent it back and the second bill was also wrong. We sent it back and the 3rd bill was also wrong. Finally the 4th Bill was correct.
We were with two friends from Boston. They were looking to try some local fish dishes - they were not disappointed! The food, ambience and the view over to Fife as the evening wore on and all we could see was a necklace of lights along the coast. It was the perfect end to their tour of Scotland. Thank you to all the staff.
The Old Chain Pier was very welcoming. Service was excellent and so was the food! We had fish and chips and it was really fresh and cooked to perfection. Well done!
Nice staff very friendly attentive noticed my bowl of mussel shells was filling so came and emptied it . Food was great and good value. Starter size mussels served with lovely bread was a meal in itself also had the pear and blue cheese salad starter all fresh and tasty. Friend had starter size chilli again good size portion for lunch. Toilets clean and tidy. Would go back. Rustic decor and lovely view.
Always have a great meal at The Old Chain Pier. It's in a lovely setting and has a great ambience. You always get great customer service too. Great place!
Amazing location!! We ordered fish and chips and we were more than happy with it. The service was great and the waitresses very friendly! The only negative comment that I could make it's regarding the very loud live music. I don't think it is necessary for a place like that with such an amazing view and relaxing atmosphere. It certainly made us leave the place sooner than we wanted.
Beautiful position overlooking the Forth with great views and lovely friendly staff. The food was very tasty - we had "catch of the day" which was lovely and fresh and the veggie option was so good it persuaded our ardent carnivore to forget his principles. Chocolate tart did not disappoint either. A great lunchtime experience. Thank you!
Fabulous food and delightful staff. We had two starters each rather than a main course - the cullen skink was amazing, accompanied by chunky wholemeal bread, the hummus with pitta would have benefited from a touch of garlic, lemon or chilli (it was a bit bland) but the baked camembert was delicious. The view is fabulous!
As always food and service at The Old Chain Pier first rate. My friend's first visit but hopefully not her last. She was particularly struck with the view over the Firth of Forth.
As always great food, great service - the Old Chain Pier never disappoints, I'm so lucky it's my local. I highly recommend this lovely pub
Food was amazing, fab restaurant, really nice atmosphere and amazing setting right at the water. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating - we were running late due to traffic and were going to a show and they were so nice about everything - 5* and would totally recommend, we'll definitely be back - amazing place.
Always a good experience here. Dog friendly, amazing food and great views out over the Forth. A good selection of drinks available and although we had booked for 2pm, after a quick call we were able to move to an early time that suited us. We'll be back.
Wonderful views, much better vegetarian choices than most places. Food was well cooked & plentiful. Excellent value for money. Only one down point, server forgot to bring one of our mains & we had to ask where it was before it arrived. Would not stop me going back thou!! Definitely worth booking in advance as very popular.
The food was wonderful, especially the fig and pistachio cheesecake. The staff were friendly and nice. BUT, the view over the Forth was spectacular, We drove 60 plus miles to get there and it was well worth it. Such a nice place to go. Wish it were nearer.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed and chilled out. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend Old Chain Pier.
Two of us had lunch in this famous old pub, overlooking the Firth of Forth. The menu contains a decent selection of burgers, etc, as well as classics such as fish and chips, fish pie, etc, and there is a good choice if beers on tap. All our food was freshly prepared and delicious.
Excellent food, lovely people.... go there! I especially liked the fish cakes.... and the proper real ales. The staff are attentive and the overall atmosphere is homely and cosy... book the table by the back window and you can have the sea beneath you!
My friend and I had a lovely meal and both thought the Cullen skink was exceptional. We had a table close to the window and the view out over the Forth was spectacular. The members of staff were polite and very efficient.
The restaurant is very nice, situated on the sea and from where you can enjoy a beautiful view. The staff is very kind and attentive to customer needs. The food is very good, in the right quantities and at a good price.
Great service and food as always. Took friends along for their first visit and they were really happy with their meals. The staff are always really friendly and helpful. Lovely place to visit for just a coffee, a meal or a drink.
This is a charming little restaurant with a small bar area and being on the water front great views over the firth of Forth. The food is simple hearty fare, beautifully prepared and served by a friendly front of house staff. Highly recommended but better book to secure a table.
Lovely evening, great table looking out over the Forth, very generous portions and attentive staff - who were clearly picking up their FaceBook and realised it was my mum's 79th birthday, presenting her with a candle in her pudding
Great evening out. Lovely views over the Newhaven harbour, quiet and cosy atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the service very friendly and helpful despite the restaurant heaving with guests. Many thanks for such a lovely experience. Again!
This is such a great place. Not only is the food excellent, the view is stunning and the service relaxed and friendly. A good mix of dishes on the menu and my dietary requirements were catered for.
Food was really tasty however it was a little cramped in the restaurant, and they actually had us sitting at the same table with another couple (complete strangers). It was a table for 4 people but they split it to have two couples which was fairly awkward. If it wasn't for that I would have given a higher overall experience rate but unfortunately the seating arrangements played too big a factor not to ignore.
The restaurant has a lovely location and the views over the Firth of Forth are magnificent (if weather permits) when the sun sets. Lovely service and excellent food made the whole experience more than pleasurable. Highly recommended!
Best meal I'll have in a while! Plus the restaurant is super cozy and is right on the water :) We had the catch of the day and it was all fresh and cooked to perfection!
The venue had not booked our table as they had not checked the online bookings, but managed to seat us at a table in the end. Food was mediocre, the main meals tasted good. When ordering chips, they are more like unseasoned wedges and were a little undercooked. As for dessert, the cake was dry and was unable to finish which let the overall experience down. Wouldn't rush back in a hurry.
Absolutely lovely early "tea" with friends. The food was delicious and hot and the waitress was really helpful and cheery even though there was a coach load of 40+ visitors. Would definitely go back. Thank you.
Staff very friendly and welcoming great menu choices with lovely views over the forth ... it was fairly busy for a Tuesday night at the end of a month ... will definitely visit again 😊 We all had the fish and chips ...
I don't think they had checked the reservation as I booked it that day. Didn't matter though as they had tables available. The view was amazing and I think if we booked further ahead we would have got a much better table and a nicer view. Service was fine and food was good
This was our second visit although we have tried to book other times and they have been fully booked, it's very popular, for good reason. Really nice atmosphere with river views. Food good and reasonably priced. Good choice of beers as well.2
We had a lovely time. Good was fine. Atmosphere and service were fantastic. We took two children 12 and 9 and they were welcomed. We didn't leave until 10.30 and had a really great experience.
We had a great time with my parents. The food was delicious, and the staff really friendly. I just regret it wasn't possible to book a table at the window. I'd need to call directly the restaurant for that (not possible online).
Best to make a reservation by phone as they didn't have a record of my online booking. Fortunately they found us a table inspite of it being a busy Saturday night. Food, beer and service was very good. Will go again!
Situated on the banks of the Forth this homely restaurant offers lovely views of the river and the coastline of Fife. The food is excellent, freshly cooked and served piping hot and the service efficient and friendly. Will be back.
That was awsome! Food is awsome! Very kind staff. Wonderful atmosphere. Amaizing live music. I will strongly recommend this perfect płace not only for drink but also for food (Ask for all And just Sharm with your friends) Thank you
Great table, great food, great staff. Fish & chips and chimmi churri chicken was lovely. The meal was very affordable between 4 people for a starter, main and drinks. Would definitely visit again.
Always a pleasure to eat and drink in old chain pier. Good food and attentive staff. Already booked in again this week for dinner and to enjoy the musical entertainment after dinner.
Very friendly atmosphere, friendly host and waiter, still had our table reserved although we where 35 minutes late! Food was very good and reasonably priced! Will definitely go back many times!
Lovely restaurant friendly staff. Amazing views over the Forth. Grazing platter was excellant interesting mix, with cheeses ,chutney and olives. The full menu looked interesting and catered for vegetarian Loved the experience
