More about the restaurant: Pampas
The art of the Argentinian steakhouse is spreading far and wide throughout the UK, appealing to carnivorous types as well as gastronomes with a nose for exotic world cuisines. It might come as a surprise to you that the small village of Sutton-on-the-Forest hasn’t remained immune to the trend, but it’s a feat of perfect symmetry: Pampas brings beef direct from the Argentinean pampas or plain to its steakhouse restaurant set in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. That said, it’s not much of a trek along the York Road from the city, and with a comprehensive South American offering plus Latin-themed events, a visit is well worth it!

The focal point of any Argentinean steakhouse restaurant is undoubtedly the range of carnes (meats) on offer. Pampas imports its beef direct from Argentina, where cattle roam and graze freely on the plains, a lifestyle that imparts an exquisite, robust flavour to every cut. Choose from solomillo (filet steak), chuleton (ribeye), bife de chorizo (entrecote or sirloin), or the bife de cuadril (rump – the most popular cut in Argentina) for a real rustic steakhouse treat. If you’ve made the trip with a good group to Sutton-on-the-Forest from York or elsewhere in North Yorkshire, go for the parrillada mixto, a mixed grill platter consisting of steak, chorizo, morcilla and local Yorkshire lamb.
Pampas is the passion project of restaurateur Magdalena Torres, and that her dream has been realised is evident in every aspect of this North Yorkshire steakhouse restaurant, from the authentic menus to the comprehensive selection of South American wines, the inviting and spacious refurbished farm building down York Road to the special Latin American events that draw a regular crowd from York and further afield. With Argentinean cuisine experiencing a renaissance in the UK, why not enjoy it in the domestic equivalent of the pampas, in beautiful North Yorkshire’s Sutton-on-the-Forest?
