Authentic Italian cuisine is the star of the show over at Pirata in Wan Chai, a restaurant whose influence is quickly spreading across Hong Kong. Airy and full of light, the restaurant’s premises are stunning and suitable for a number of different occasions, whether it's a business lunch, a romantic rendezvous or a big, family meal. Co-founders Manuel Palacio and Christian Talpo settle for nothing less than excellence in every aspect of the restaurant, and honing his skills in the kitchen, chef Stefano Rossi and his crew masterfully create dishes that transport diners to the Italian countryside
Start off by with some small plates like the grilled tomino cheese, tuscanian sea bass or the arancini bucket. Then, move on to a rustic Italian pasta dish like the purple potato gnocchi or pappardelle with duck ragu or go for some meat or seafood dishes designed to be shared around the table like the roasted suckling pig with scented apple sauce, bistecca alla Florentina (1kg T-bone steak with extra-virgin olive oil, rosemary and thyme) or the fresh fish of the day served. In addition to Italian dishes, Pirata is known for their cocktails – named after cosmopolitan cities like Tokyo, Copenhagen, San Francisco and London, the mixed drinks at Pirata are a must-try. Located on Hennessy Road, Pirata draws in diners from all across Hong Kong to its Wan chai location – guarantee a table by booking beforehand!
Excellent Saturday brunch Great buffet starter selection followed by good choice of mains courses on set lunch menu with optional free flow. Very good service from friendly staff , nice atmosphere and decor
Excellent food, view and service! Love tiramisu and arancini basket. Pumpkin risotto and lasagna are also must -try. Hope to visit again and again !
Service was very fast with excellent food. Great environment and views too. Each had a different main and shared the lamb and would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience. Great atmosphere, staff were very friendly and helpful. food was tasty, served well and in good proportions. Suggested wine was a wonderful discovery. We will definitely go again.
Excellent service; very good food and menu choices in general although dessert menu has some room for improvement; nice ambience although the dinning area was quite packed and noisy; and will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. Portion size is relatively large in Hong Kong standard. Small dishes are not small at all and most suitable for 2-4 people to share as starters while the 'to be shared at the table' items are big enough for four easily. The two of us ordered two small dishes and two to be shared dishes as we always did at other restaurants and we ended up so full that we had to struggle to decide whether we should order desserts. Since a nice meal would not be completed without dessert, we did order two relatively lighter desserts and they just hit the spot. I was glad that I asked for an expert opinion from the server who took our order then as I was planning to order a pasta dish as well originally. While we were enjoying our meal, I could smell the wonderfully strong black truffle from the Tagliatelle dish ordered by the couple next to us smelled and I really wished my stomach could have a bit more room then. I would say Pirata is especially good for larger parties as more variety of dishes can be tried then. As the restaurant does not include any service charge in the bill, I would suggest that at least 10%, if not more, of the total bill should be added as tips to reward the excellent service provided by the servers.
Excellent meal at Pirata. Pirata has probably one of the best Italian menus in Hong Kong but I had stopped bringing business dinners there because of the unbelievable inattentive service. In the past I have sat a table with a client and waited 15 minutes for a drink order to be taken and then waited another 15 before I finally just walked to the bar to get it myself. Dined there last night for the first time in a few months. Excellent food (as always) and very attentive but not intrusive service by the staff. When they are on their game, this is one of the nicest dinning experiences in HK. Will return again soon and hope to have another great experience. Bravo!
Moving from Tokyo where is a battle field of good restauratns, and being an Italian food lover (we spend summer in Italy every few years as we love the food so much!), it has been really difficult to find a GOOD Italian restaurant in Hong Kong. I have been to some well known pricy ones in HK but was not satisfied. Then I tried here, Pirata, for lunch and was really happy with the quality of the food. Cold cuts & salad buffet was delicious, pasta was done al dente, and especially the bread was awesome, crispy outside and soft & moist inside. I would definitely come back again! Thanks for the nice meal.
Located the 30th floor of an office building that houses several other restaurants, Pirata is very intimate, cozy and serves authentic Italian food. Small bar and a dozen tables with great views. We had amazing mussels, octopus salad and bruschetta to start. Then roasted chicken served in a hot skillet with potatoes and veggies was over the top. Eggplant parmigiana was sinful. Well priced wine list and excellent service.
The experience was fantastic. We had 9 people for a birthday dinner. The restaurant prepared a high table for us. Smart choice. Because we moved around a lot to talk with other people in the group. High table made it easier to stand up and walk around. Food was amazing. Authentic Italian food. The service was outstanding. We had our plates changed frequent enough but not too frequent. The water cup is always full. Nice touch: the restaurant waived the service fee because it was a birthday dinner. They also took a Polaroid picture for us and prepared a birthday card with the picture in it. They also gave the birthday boy a small gift at the end. In short, authentic food, outstanding service and thoughtful arrangement. We had a very good time.
The staff are attentive but suitably discreet, the food sublime, the view - as the lights of Hong Kong start to blaze against the approach of dusk - extraordinary, and the atmosphere welcoming and not stuffy. I could not have chosen a better venue for my fiftieth birthday celebration dinner, and am very grateful to Pirata for their contribution to a very happy evening
Food was excellent. We went on a Sunday lunch so it was buffet style. I don't like "buffets" as I tend to overeat and can't really enjoy the food. Nevertheless, appetizer (asparagus flan, cheese mozzarella sandwich) was excellent. Cold cuts, pasta and salad served at the open table was fresh and delicious. I ordered beef steak for main dish. It was alright but I was 85% full by the time it was served that I couldn't enjoy the food properly. Dessert was amazing however. Too full to even remember the names of the dessert unfortunately. I have to mention that the manager, a mandarin speaking Spanish, was extremely friendly. He made sure everything was well taken cared of and the experience was a memorable one.
The restaurant itself is well fitted out and nicely styled on the 30th floor. Staff were somewhat attentive, but didn't really appreciate that we wanted to be left alone for a while to catch up after we'd ordered entree and revisited the table every 5 mins or so to check. Unfortunately once ordered, the mains (tasty and inventive pasta dishes, especially the liquid ravioli) were served a considerable time apart - about 20 mins between the first one and the last one (of four). No idea why this happened, and no excuses or follow up offered by the staff. This meant our party either had to share or were forced to eat at separate times. Perhaps the concept of sharing the larger mains as listed in the menu (as opposed to pasta dishes) had the staff a bit confused. No major issue for us as friends but could be awkward if a business oriented meal. Otherwise an overall pretty good experience.
I went there for Brunch this time and discovered that it is a really great value for great food - the fettuccine with shaved black truffles was excellent! For only $298 at brunch, you really get a lot of food! This was my second time at Pirata and I will definitely be back!
Hi I m An Italian food lover staying a few days In HK for a business trip. I had lunch at the Pirata 's and I must really say that I had a fantastic Italian lunch in a nice and lovely place on the top floor With a fantastic view. Vasco
The Sunday brunch was fantastic. Starts off with a great Antipasto selection, with fantastic meats and cheeses. The giant Grana Padano wheel with nice chunks of cheese was incredible. All of the Apps were fantastic from the meatballs to the Asparagus flan. For the mains I tried the pasta with duck ragu and it was very flavorful and the pasta has the perfect bite to it. The deserts were the perfect way to finish with the Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta. All in all the perfect way to spend a sunday afternoon after a long night at LKF.
One of the best restaurants I have been to in Hong Kong. Superb! Great value, service, and atmosphere. The food was perfect. Lasagna is one of my absolute favorite meals and this was one of the most delicious I have had. I will certainly be going back to Pirata.
We had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile and asked to take a seat for a few moments then we were taken to our table downstairs. The food was truly authentic Italian food the cheese on the Antipasta Plate along with the sliced meats was very tasty, the salad bar had a good selection all very fresh. Our main courses Meatballs and the Pasta with Duck were very generous serves. There was also a lovely choice of Desserts. I would fully recommending visiting this restaurant for Lunch
Our server Susan was excellent. So was manager, Anmol and Bar manager, Ryan. Food was very good and portion size excellent. We had the vittello tonato, cold cuts & cheese and lasagne. Will certainly recommend Pirata & will be back when we are in HK next
We went for brunch on a Saturday. The food was lovely, the service excellent. Salad buffet then various small dishes served to share at the table then choice of main and sharing desserts (x 2). My companions LOVED the meatballs but it was all delish. The food came out quite quickly and that was good at the start as we had skipped breakfast but there is a lot and we asked them to slow it down later on (which they did).
Overall dining experience lowed due to serving our main dishes while we were still eating one of our starter dishes. All felt very rushed like they wanted us out ASAP. Three of us ordered a different pasta dish for mains but only the Lasagna would be described as a good dish (highly recommend that), the other two pastas were served warm at best and they were very small portions considering the price. All three starter dishes were excellent with the meatballs and Italian sausage the stand out dishes of the night. We were given a free dessert at the end to make up for our displeasure of having mains served so quickly, which rescued a slightly higher overall score.
