The Jamaican community has given plenty to Great Britain over the years, and while there might not be a huge Caribbean population in Beverley, there is a restaurant that can bring all the sharp flavours and spice of the Land of Wood and Water to East Yorkshire. Roots Bar on New Walkergate are flying the flag for Jamaican cuisine in the centre of Beverley with a menu that is filled with favourites. Go for the jerk chicken, of course, marinated in allspice and scotch bonnet peppers, traditional curried goat with rice and peas or patties stuffed with meat and vegetables, all the while washing them down with something truly special from Roots Bar’s extensive cocktail menu. They’re the latest new thing in town centre – the only Caribbean restaurant in Beverley – so make sure that you book a table before you arrive, as they will get crowded on occasion.
Starters fantastic. Very tasty jerk shrimp with great garlic and thyme sauce. Disappointed when my wife was told a main course version couldn't be made. Service this time was a bit off. Forgotten drunks orders etc.
