The locals to London’s Kensington are a famously discerning bunch; many restaurants suffer at the hand of residents unimpressed by lackluster offerings which disappear as quickly as they sprung up. So what marks Sopranos Restaurant on Kensington High Street as special then is its more than 40 year tenure serving excellent Italian food to the capital’s most demanding diners. Combining excellent food with an eclectic live music scene in the bar, Sopranos have proved their mettle time and time again.
Tastes change, and restaurants come and go, especially in London where fad-happy diners jump from one craze to another. None of this, however, is of any concern to the team behind Kensington’s wildly successful Sopranos Restaurant. With over 40 years experience serving Italian food to Kensington High Street’s foodies, they have firmly established themselves as a local institution. The menu makes plain why they have enjoyed such success: there’s classic favourites like stone baked pizzas, spaghetti and pasta dishes, as well as lesser-known Italian dishes like tagliolini seppia (a riot of seafood flavours with ribbons of squid-ink pasta).
It would be a poor Italian restaurant indeed that failed to take their wine list seriously. Sopranos Restaurant on Kensington High Road, is the granddaddy of Italian eating in west London hence has an unparalleled wine menu. The wine is predominately-Italian led, but there’s a smattering of vintages from France and Argentina to keep things interesting, and the staff are happy to help you pair your food with the wine. Kensington locals don’t only visit Sopranos for food though, the downstairs bar is open Thursday-Saturday from 6.30pm until 1am and is an excellent spot for live music and drinks in London.
Great Pasta, would Recommend Canneloni. The restaurant is nice and cozy, with interesting pictures with Italian motives hanging on the walls. There's a Italian Vespa hanging on the front wall. The owner is also very friendly and approachable.
An excellent restaurant. Food, especially pasta was first class and the service excellent. We were in a bit of a hurry because we were going to a gig and the staff handled the situation perfectly.
Cozy restaurant, delicious food. I ordered black pasta, however didn't understood why they brought me regular pasta. However it was my date evening, so didn't want to cause drama, but for this reason cannot give 6 stars.
