About St John's Wine Rooms

Perhaps too much of a rarity these days, St John’s Wine Rooms is unique and independent and here, much thought is given to which foods pair perfectly with which wines. Whether for lunch or dinner you can expect food that’s as classically British as it’s possible to find and every plate is as easy on the eye as it is on the tongue. In Bromsgrove – and owned by lifelong Bromsgrovians – on St John Street, St John’s Wine Rooms is next to iconic Steps House and an absolute favourite among locals. It’s head and shoulders above the rest in the area and we just know you’re going to love it.

Booked at a peak time on a Friday night and we had no complaints, it got a little loud due to being not too far away from the bar, however no services was lacking even though the place was full! Waitress was lovely and courteous and we all felt really looked after and listened to. Price on food was good for the quality and portion size you get, but for that quality you do have to wait a little longer for your food, but please know that it is well worth the wait! Plus that evening there was plenty to discuss so waiting wasn't a problem for us. Overall I cannot fault this place for anything, we had a wonderful Friday evening there and the only reason our bill was so high was the fact we were so merry with the wine ordering! But so good we booked the same table for Christmas whilst we were there! Just a great place to spend a meal time!

We really enjoyed our lunch today. It was fairly quiet being mid week, but the weather was nice so we had our starters outside on the terrace. We shared the Baltic platter, and we were really impressed with the amount of seafood provided, as well as some lovely chunks of bread, horseradish dressing and pickled beetroot. So lovely! We moved inside for main curse, as it had turned rather chilly, but the waitress was very helpful and the move was smooth. For main course I had the seared scallops special, and my husband had pork belly. Both mains were beautifully presented and delicious. We both though the terrace was a great spence, by the interior downstairs was a little bland, too much white for us, and the furniture was a little stark. Could do with cosying up a bit perhaps. We'd definitely return here as it is a great local independent and should be really embraced by the community.

Our first time at St John's Wine Rooms, but it won't be the last. There was a good atmosphere, staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. So good to have somewhere in Bromsgrove that you can go for a great meal.

Had a great time eating a lovely Sunday lunch on their roof top terrace. Beef was plentiful and extremely tender, lovely home cooked cauliflower cheese (plenty of thick cheese sauce) and fresh vegetables. Super Porn Martini's were gorgeous. Service great. For our personal taste, could of done with more gravy (we were brought some but in a very tiny jug) Lovely private room, ideal for a private celebration (someone was celebrating their 21st) Thought this was a lovely idea. Looking forward to going again next Saturday to try their 'normal' menu.

Went to st johns for the second time, but first time for an evening meal. Food was fantastic and the host was lovely, service staff were very attentive for the first half of our meal and then drifted off and seemed uninterested during the second half. Staff behind the bar were very friendly though. I did notice a trolley right by the bar that was in full view of customers that staff were clearing dirty plates onto... not the greatest thing for customers to see! Great food as I said but we had a long wait for the bill. Service could be better considering how many staff are milling around.

Lovely, well needed addition to Bromsgrove. Design was lovely and modern. Tables were well spaced out so you were far enough away from the next table. Nice that there were tables downstairs and on the landing, but the roof terrace brings something different We ate from the main menu and all the meals were lovely. Drink choices were plentiful and some nice speciality drinks also.
