About St John's Wine Rooms

Dear diners, between Monday - Friday from the 4th-24th of December, the only menu available is the special Christmas menu. Over the weekends during this period, they will be serving the a la carte menu. On Christmas Day, December 25th, St John’s Wine Rooms will be open from 12-3pm for drinks only. They invite you to join them to celebrate in the spirit of Christmas.

Perhaps too much of a rarity these days, St John’s Wine Rooms is unique and independent and here, much thought is given to which foods pair perfectly with which wines. Whether for lunch or dinner you can expect food that’s as classically British as it’s possible to find and every plate is as easy on the eye as it is on the tongue. In Bromsgrove – and owned by lifelong Bromsgrovians – on St John Street, St John’s Wine Rooms is next to iconic Steps House and an absolute favourite among locals. It’s head and shoulders above the rest in the area and we just know you’re going to love it.

Further Information

As with the food (which we’ll get to), St John’s Wine Rooms as a setting is nothing short of beautiful. Four rooms maintain a typically Georgian feel whilst also giving a sense of modern luxury. The size of St John’s Wine Rooms make it one of the most ideal places for a private event in Bromsgrove, as well as of course being a dreamy casual dining spot by day or by night. As soon as you step through the doors on St John Street in Bromsgrove, the charm and family-feel of this restaurant is obvious and it’s exactly this that makes you want to sit and stay for far longer than planned.

St John’s Wine Rooms has fine selections of both wine and food. Even if you’re stopping by for a sandwich or a sharing board, we’re quite sure the wonderfully British flavours will impress. At lunchtime from Monday to Friday, two courses are available for £14 or three for £17, while at dinner there are luxurious options for your main course in the way of grilled fillet of hake with Brixham crab and spring onion and olive oil mash, pork belly with crackling and black pudding bon bons, or butternut squash & ricotta cheese rotolo with asparagus. When it comes to the wine, nowhere in Bromsgrove or the Redditch area has more or better, and whether you’re after a fine wine or a house, you’ll find international options that are varied in flavour, intensity, aroma and crispness. Excellent service and food. Could do with expanding vegetarian choice only one available, disappointing for our vegetarian guest. Looking forward to going again. Would recommend.

We really enjoyed our lunch today. It was fairly quiet being mid week, but the weather was nice so we had our starters outside on the terrace. We shared the Baltic platter, and we were really impressed with the amount of seafood provided, as well as some lovely chunks of bread, horseradish dressing and pickled beetroot. So lovely! We moved inside for main curse, as it had turned rather chilly, but the waitress was very helpful and the move was smooth. For main course I had the seared scallops special, and my husband had pork belly. Both mains were beautifully presented and delicious. We both though the terrace was a great spence, by the interior downstairs was a little bland, too much white for us, and the furniture was a little stark. Could do with cosying up a bit perhaps. We'd definitely return here as it is a great local independent and should be really embraced by the community.

Amazing food, excellent friendly knowledgeable staff. Wine and cocktail list was varied with something for everyone. Try a St Johns Collins. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Had a great time eating a lovely Sunday lunch on their roof top terrace. Beef was plentiful and extremely tender, lovely home cooked cauliflower cheese (plenty of thick cheese sauce) and fresh vegetables. Super Porn Martini's were gorgeous. Service great. For our personal taste, could of done with more gravy (we were brought some but in a very tiny jug) Lovely private room, ideal for a private celebration (someone was celebrating their 21st) Thought this was a lovely idea. Looking forward to going again next Saturday to try their 'normal' menu.

Went to st johns for the second time, but first time for an evening meal. Food was fantastic and the host was lovely, service staff were very attentive for the first half of our meal and then drifted off and seemed uninterested during the second half. Staff behind the bar were very friendly though. I did notice a trolley right by the bar that was in full view of customers that staff were clearing dirty plates onto... not the greatest thing for customers to see! Great food as I said but we had a long wait for the bill. Service could be better considering how many staff are milling around.

Lovely, well needed addition to Bromsgrove. Design was lovely and modern. Tables were well spaced out so you were far enough away from the next table. Nice that there were tables downstairs and on the landing, but the roof terrace brings something different We ate from the main menu and all the meals were lovely. Drink choices were plentiful and some nice speciality drinks also.

Good food and service and great atmosphere. Definitely on our list for the future. This is a relatively new restaurant and wine bar and I've known about their plans from the inception They have gone to a lot of trouble to get it right and it's certainly paid off. Various special events planned for the future.

Food was lovely though vegetarian of the group wasn't impressed - only one option starter and main and not particularly tasty. Service was awful: very slow, (10 minutes to take a drinks order once we sat down was just the beginning), we were brought someone else's food who had a similar order, waitresses seemed a bit clueless and to top it off after paying the bill and on our way out a waiter who hadn't served us all night had the cheek to ask us 'have you paid the bill?' I have never known that question be asked as you leave a restaurant. None of us will be returning.

We had the lunch menu and cocktails. The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were lovely. We visited the roof terrace briefly before the rain forced us back inside, but it's a very pleasant space. The staff were friendly and helpful. We look forward to another visit - great addition to Bromsgrove.
