The modern world invites so much choice, and as any Blackadder fan will tell you, that is a very particular type of agony. There’s none of that at Alexandra Terrace’s Steak and Lobster in Guilford. You choose from steak or lobster and that’s it – you’re set. With a menu so short the waiting staff could feasibly have it tattooed onto the palm of their hands, there’s simply no room for error with either dish, so expect expertly prepared lobster or steak every time.
So let’s get into this a little bit. The original branch of Steak and Lobster in Central London arrived to much fanfare, and has spread to Warren Street (Northern and Victoria lines), Manchester and Guilford, with a planned additional Central branch in Marble Arch. The Guilford branch has its own dynamic however. The dining room at the Alexandra Terrace branch is sumptuous, spacious and almost always packed out. Don’t let the concept fool you, this is a restaurant with serious ambition.
So, you’ve made your mind up – you fancy a steak and your date has gone for the lobster. What do you end up with? Your 10oz prime rib-eye steak will come griddled to order (the kitchen likes to serve ‘em up rare) and the crustacean comes whole, steamed in a half shell with a generous portion of garlic butter. Both of you will be treated to unlimited skinny fries and a salad of baby gem lettuce, shallots, parmesan, sunflower seeds and croutons. There’s nothing shy about Steak and Lobster, so come for big generous portions of the good stuff, it isn’t like there’s much to consider really. Diners should know that Steak and Lobster on Alexandra Terrace in Guildford is regularly packed to the rafters so a reservation is almost always a good idea.
