About Tava

Pide, yesil salata, and patlican kebab are just three of the most popular dishes on offer at Tava, Stoke Newington’s go-to restaurant for authentic Turkish cuisine. There are plenty of other classics of London’s favourite strand of Middle Eastern cuisine on offer here, and the restaurant’s Stoke Newington Road site alone excels at putting diners in the right kind of mood. Tava also offers a number of great meal deals for fans of Turkish lamb, chicken, and mixed grills, while the Tava Special is our pick for the indecisive or just plain adventurous.

More about Tava, London

Tava’s best deal is its house special, with skewers of adana, lamb and chicken shish, chicken wings, lamb ribs and chops, a whole quail with salad, bread, onions, and rice that can feed at least three very hungry people. But this Turkish restaurant in London’s Stoke Newington has a lot more to offer. Tava’s Stoke Newington premises also function as a Middle Eastern pizzeria, serving up the Turkish take on the Italian delicacy in the form of pide, freshly baked pastries with a range of toppings. The meat chunk pide is the best bet for carnivores, but there are at least four vegetarian varieties to choose from: Turkish cheddar, spinach and feta, and the sumptuous vegetarian supreme with aubergine, mixed peppers, tomatoes, parsley, mushrooms and olive oil.

Another specialty at Tava’s Stoke Newington restaurant are the fish dishes. Fresh sea bass (levrek) and sea bream (cupra) are on the menu, traditionally prepared with herbs and spices and chargrilled to perfection. Simple, rustic ways to enjoy seafood Middle Eastern-style, these two come with sides of salad and bread. As with the pide, there are plenty of vegetarian main courses that tempt diners away from the grilled meats and kebabs that are standard at Turkish restaurants in London. Here at Tava, we recommend the imam bayildi, stuffed aubergines (the name means fainting imam), and the garlicky, tomato-based stew of haricot beans, carrot and potato known as barbunya plaki. Book a table in advance – prominent down Stoke Newington Road, Tava tends to pack out at peak times.
