Set inside an old 17th century coaching inn within the picturesque village of Monk Fryston, only a short drive away from Leeds city centre, The Crown Inn has lots of traditional appeal. With a menu combining British cuisine with modern pub grub, alongside a selection of hand-pulled ales and lengthy wine list, whether it is for dinner, Sunday lunch or a drink with friends, this cosy pub on the Main Street is the perfect option.
With its charming location inside a historic building on the Main Street of Monk Fryston, it is no wonder that The Crown Inn draws in a crowd from all over the Leeds area. As well as its lovely surroundings, The Crown Inn also boasts an extensive menu full of classic British pub food alongside some modern dishes, all made with seasonal produce. Why not begin your meal with a starter like the black pudding, field mushroom and bacon stack, or deep-fried brie wedges with port & redcurrant sauce?
Main courses include all of the much loved pub food classics like beer-battered fish and chips as well as traditional British cuisine from steak & ale pie to gammon steak. For the full traditional experience, we recommend heading to The Crown Inn on a Sunday for a roast dinner served with Yorkshire puddings, roast and mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Complete your meal at The Crown Inn with a hand-pulled Yorkshire ale from their regularly changed selection or some wine from the extensive menu. Popular with Monk Fryston locals and visitors to the Leeds area alike, we recommend making a reservation at The Crown Inn in advance.
We really enjoyed the Crown, lovely fresh food and great service, and a really nice ambience. Overall a great dining experience, we will definitely go again.
The Crown is accommodating, attractive and very professional. They understand their market. The Food is better than very good, the service is excellent. A really good experience.
We found the Crown Inn from good reviews on Trip Advisor. We received excellent service, good food at reasonable prices, and had an extremely favourable experience.
Great service - being able to book on-line is a real bonus. Had Sunday lunch - good portions, well cooked and plenty of meat and veg.
Reserved a table for 2 and on arrival was immediately seated with our drinks, after 5 mins our order was taken. The food was brought after 15 mins and was clearly freshly cooked, my wife only wanted a smaller portion of fish and chips which they stopped serving at 5pm however even though it was nearer 6pm we were fully accommodated with the smaller order with a "not a problem we can do that for you" response from the chef and staff, brilliant. The fish and chips were cooked excellent and my balti chicken curry was flavourful, tasty and with the right amount of chilli heat. Now the reason for our score, the initial service was great but after our meal no one offered us any dessert until well after our plates had been cleared which was 20 mins or so, we also witnessed another couple who had ordered their food wait at least 30 mins before having to chase up their order bearing in mind their were only a few tables occupied. At no point were we offered more drinks whilst we ate resulting in me having to leave my meal to get my own from the bar, not a problem realistically but if you have a waitress service it would be nice to see someone floating around keeping an eye out for further customers requirements. Despite wanting desserts after eventually being given a menu we waited for the order to be taken....nothing. So after a fantastic flavoured main we called it a day paid and left. We would have had more from this place but due to staff lacking basic service for diners which roughly calculated would have been an extra £20 on top of our paid bill of £25 meant we left wanting a fix for our sweet tooth. Also mens toilet had no hand drying as machine was broken so had to use toilet roll from the leaking facilty.
Great food from a good diverse menu. The lamb shank fell off the bone and the mint gravy was superb. Fresh cooked vegetables were lovely. Others in my party had homemade steak and ale pie which I'm told was full of succulent steak in a rich ale gravy. Hand cut chips were hot with fluffy middle and crisp on the outside. The chicken curry was served with rice, chips or half and half was an option. Good range of deserts tempted us in the direction of hot chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, apple crumble and custard and vanilla cheesecake with a berry coulis and cream, all absolutely fabulous. Prices are just right for the quality of the food. Great service, it has been slow in the past but this time was very good. All topped off with a well stocked bar in tastefully decorated surroundings.
We always have a warm and cheery welcome when we arrive at The Crown Inn They serve a good hearty Sunday Lunch usually 2 roast meats then other options including vegetarian. The waiting staff are lovely and attentive but not intrusive. Likewise the bar staff . The whole experience is great and surroundings are well maintained and very clean will recommend anyone to try this place 5*.
Several friends here in east Leeds have been recommending your good food and I thought I would bring my husband and two friends for a trial run for Sunday Lunch. We were not disappointed and had a wonderful meal. It was helpful for the ladies to be told by the licensee that they have "smaller portions"on offer for the roast dinner which was a very generous helping anyway - but not outfacing. We spoke to the Licensee and his daughter; all very friendly and we shall certainly be calling again. I did book on line. We may have a run over week-days and see what is on offer then! Thank you very much. Marjorie and Bill, Templenewsam.
Nice village pub with good selection of beers and a decent wine list. Four of us and a toddler had a Sunday lunch. We all had different starters, but all went for the roast beef. Food was good and plentiful, and, unlike the usual carvery, you get table service, which is friendly and efficient; starters. though, were a bit ordinary and overpriced. The dining areas are reasonably spacious, and certainly not crowded, even when the place is busy (but note that car parking is somewhat limited). Outside, there is a terrace and beer garden, and then a big grassy area and a play area with various bits of climbing equipment which was a winner for our 2-year-old.
We booked last minute and we were so glad we went. The Sunday lunch was very good and the meat melted in your mouth, l had the pork and my husband said that the beef was just as good. We have been before but never on a Sunday so we can highly recommend their weekly menu too. The landlord and staff made us feel very welcome, we will be going again and soon.
