To give you an idea of what you can expect in terms of food, at the time of writing the sample a la carte looked a little like this: devilled butterflied mackerel with cucumber and dill to start, Jerusalem artichoke soup or crispy snails with chargrilled sourdough, parsley, roasted garlic and shallots. Main courses – and it’s well worth pointing out that dining at The Gilbert Scott will not break the bank, as dishes are high-quality yet still affordable – went as far as squab pigeon with spiced cauliflower and kale, chargrilled Cumbrian lamb cutlets or south coast sea bass.
