Is there anything more pleasing than classic British eating? When in London, probably not. Especially when you’re chosen eatery is modern British bistro, The Habit. On Nunhead Lane in, yes, Nunhead, The Habit is where to enjoy lovingly-prepared food crafted from fine local produce. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday, the menu here is kept simple and seasonal. Try The Habit bun with chilli, black pudding hash, smokey bacon and egg, or the delightful red pepper and goat’s cheese toastie. This Nunhead gem wins every time because the food leaving the kitchen surpases the norm. Oh, and the wine is excellent, too.
Food was great. Husband reported a good cortado but my tea was luke warm and lacked depth of flavour (one tea bag in the pot). The only other gripe was that the waitesss decided to clean the table of crumbs after we'd sat down and as it was busy and cramped she had to lean across us all to do that. Still overall a pleasant experience.
Lovely restaurant and friendly service. The Portuguese wine, chorizo and pickled carrot, raspberry fool and old fashioned cocktail were excellent. The larger dishes we had (squid, beef) were well cooked, but didn't wow us - we felt they were missing a taste. We will go back to try more as the menu changes.
Another great tasting meal at the Habit. This was our second visit and we enjoyed several more good dishes served up in relaxed informal surroundings.
