About The Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant
The Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant has made a name for itself as an upscale pub with excellent food. Located in South Birmingham’s Hall Green area, this watering hole is more a restaurant than strictly a bar. With an extensive Indian menu alongside a more traditional English food menu, guests can decide whether they feel like having comfort food favorites or perhaps something more exotic to accompany their beer, wine or cocktails.

Achieving a finalist position in the British Curry Awards 2012, Owner Tanveer Handa accepts nothing but the best for his bar and grill. With friendly service and an impressive number of fancy cocktails, Champagnes and wines, guests are left feeling satisfied and excited to try out more. The Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant in Hall Green is a local favourite amongst Birmingham’s spice-loving foodies and British food purists, encouraging them to return again and again.
The menu at Hall Green’s Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant is nothing short of extraordinary, with a massive number of dishes to choose from. With two separate menus joining mapping out an Anglo-Indian culinary cultural exchange, the Chilli and Spice menu and the Great British menu, Birmingham residents always find something new here. Regardless of whether you order the braised lamb shank from the British menu or bhindi masala from the Indian menu, you’re certain to feel impressed by the restaurant’s unique offerings and will be eager to visit again.
The menu is extensive and the food is lovely and freshly prepared. I should give special mention to the helpful staff, who made an excellent (and economical) recommendation about the wine. The outside of the building is not exceptional; however, the internal decor is really nice and contributes to the excellent ambiance.
Beautiful food the best quality ingredients and so fresh - the best Indian food in Birmingham we will definitely be back!!!!!!! The staff are so lovely too.!!!!!
Staff were attentive and welcoming but not harassing. The food was freshly cooked and amazing, went for mothers day and had the set menu, great variety of choices, good selection of wines, will visit again when next in Birmingham.
Nice modern atmosphere with food of high quality. Big car park which was ideal and had car cleaned while we ate. Service was good and it was a fantastic evening
We went to the Horse Shoe bar as a Groupon deal. The staff were very friendly and polite when we arrived. The bar was very nicely decorated, the lay out of the tables gave plenty of space. We had two very nice cocktails as part of the deal and the food was delicious. My only very minor gripe would be the amount of food on the plate, for the cost of a meal there is not a big serving, I like value for money and as a groupon deal we were very happy, however, if we were paying normal prices we would probably go elsewhere. Overall, we had a lovely evening and would return if using an offer deal.
Excellent restaurant with friendly staff and wonderful decor. This is the only restaurant in the locality that suits all tastes. Whilst we prefer Indian dining, grandparents want English cuisine and there is even a Mediterranean menu so we were all happy. The ambience is good too. There isn't anything that I can fault and I shall want to return for many family gatherings. There is even an earlier sitting from 5.00pm for families who have young children who can't last for the popular time of 8pm.
Went with a Groupon... Firstly poor service when trying to book - the gentleman cut me short and never called back. Staff on the day were okay but one real negative was lack of flexibility with options from the menu (despite being within the cost limits of the voucher). As for the food itself: the starters had us thinking that we would be in for a very average meal but actually the mains were nice and a la carte prices are not over the top. All in all I wouldn't choose to go back but also would not have too many qualms if someone else was keen.
Good choice of food- both English and Indian. We had both, but with the Indian check to see what it comes with, as you will only receive the main on it's own, as we found this out. It was to late to order any thing else, as our meal would have been cold waiting for some other I had the Breast of Duck which was very good. I also had a dessert Apple crumble and custard. Very good.
Restaurant had a lovely ambience, however the poppadoms looked like they had come out of a packet not freshly cooked and what resembled mint yoghurt didnt taste to good!! we did let a member of staff know but we were still charged for them even though we hadnt eaten them, and we were charged 2 different prices for the same size bottle of water. We also paid £8.95 for a porn star martini but what came did not resemble anything like -I feel if you are going to charge these prices for cocktails you at least should know how to mix one!!! The stater and main courses were a strange shade of green but were actually very tasty, so not all bad. Dont think we will return.
A really pleasant experience, we had been once before when visited during the day, on this occasion we had good quality food, particularly excellent service, despite being served by a new member of staff, it made us feel that they couldn't do enough. Excellent value for money, will definitely visit again, and soon
Disappointing Its a restaurant attached to a pub, not A La Carte, so why the menu does not list prices was beyond me. Automatically adding a 10% service charge to the bill is a NO NO, for a table of 6 or more, I can understand, but not for a table of 2. Food was fine, but one of the starters was unavailable, when asked to have a main as a starter, we were informed 'its a main, its too big for a starter' .......... a smaller portion, was all that was needed, then it could have been classed as a starter.
It was an amazing experience at the Horse Shoe. The food was flavourable n tasty, starters and mains were cooked very well. I recommend the restaurant for sure though i was disappointed when i saw service charge on my receipt. I approached the manager and he stated it is written on the Menu. The Menu does no state any service charge.
We had great food and service our waitress was lovely. We were enjoying a great night out with friends but then a disco started up and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. Such a shame a good night spoiled by loud music there didn't seem to be anyone in the disco either. It would put us off recommending the Horseshoe to friends knowing they like good food in good surroundings but not the disco music!
Everything was excellent: service, food(choice and quality), atmosphere, comfort and furnishings. Towards the end of our meal we thought that the level of sound of the background music was a little too high, making conversation a little difficult for us (other people might have thought it was OK). Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
The food was excellent especially the Indian menu. The service was really attentive. The waitress was great with our small toddler. This was our second recent visit and the experience was consistent. The Sunday roast menu was also tasty and good value.
from walking into the horseshoes we noticed no atmosphere, nothing ,partner went to the toilet came back and was disgusted, filthy and smelly doesn't go well before you eat, I was served drinks but no one available to make a cocktail so had to wait and remember no one else waiting to be served, we were seated by a very polite lady and was served through out the night by lovely staff. The food was pleasant not fantastic, it was on a group on voucher which we were pleased as it wasn't worth much more. The place needs a bit of a lift in decoration and atmosphere and some attention to the toilets both men and ladies, we found it very dull and boring.
Quiet upon arrival on a Saturday lunchtime. We were a party of 4 adults. Food and service was good, though those of us that had Lamb Shank felt at least one 'green' should have been included without having to order extra vegetables at £2.95 for a side order
The food was pretty nice, but there's an arrogance about the place, as if the customers need them more than they need the customers, which is a shame, because it really comes across. Also there was no vegetarian option on the Sunday Lunch menu, and when asked whether I could substitute in a vegetarian meal from the main menu, this was not possible. Bending over backwards to delight the customer is a concept apparently unknown to The Horseshoe.
Good food and friendly staff, went with a groupon voucher that our son had bought us for a birthday present, no problems using it staff kindly explained what we could choose, and there was a good choice to choose from , all 3 courses were enjoyed.
only eaten from the english menu this is the fourth time and definitely will be back for more. Food excellently cooked great choice and some delicious wines. the ambience and staff are warm and very pleasant. PJ Solihull
Lovely atmosphere, excellent choice and quality of food, super service all evening! We were able to choose from both the English and Asian menus. We recommend the cocktails and the coffee as well. An all round lovely experience.
Staff were very attentive, food was great although my salmon was a little overdone, great crispy skin though! My friends both had curries that they said were delicious. I have been there before and would certainly go back again and recommend the place to others.
I only booked a table on the day but they fitted us in despite being very busy, the service was excellent and the food fantastic, there really is something for everyone there! We'll definitely be going back
Good service by the young Asian waitress. Food was good but portions could be bigger The atmosphere is so-so but I agree about some of the staff being too arrogant and also the young owner, he is very arrogant.
Great well cooked and presented tasty food and good service. Menu doesn't specify the spicy 'heat' of a dish which can be a problem for those not used to Indian food or wishing to order a mild dish.
Food, decor & waitress was lovely. Gave it a 4 as it was quite chilly in the restaurant and there were at least 3 things we asked for that were not available. Other than that it was good and I would definitely eat there again 😊
we where made very welcome by a young lady who explained the menu and different dishes to us, service and food was very good plenty to choose from highly recommended
Excellent food - all 3 courses, excellent service - friendly, precise and not overpowering, will definitely visit again and recommend people to visit as soon as possible. A real gem
Really good service, not rushed and great food Will definitely be returning Recommend to all family and friends Children's meal was great value for money and the curry was amazing
Lively atmosphere at the weekend, great choices on the English and Indian menus. Good bar makes it easy to spend fifty pounds a head! If you are local to Hall Green, give them a go!
Nice venue, friendly staff who were attentive throughout the meal; the only minor criticism was that it took a little while at the end to get someone's attention to bring the bill - otherwise happy!
Great food, great service, good value for money. Good range of vegetarian and carnivorous food from India to European, all cooked to order and very tasty. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
The food was very tasty. Service was good. Only we were told can&at order any cocktails. We ordered 2 staters, 2 mains and 3 breads. It was plenty of food for 3 of us.
Varied selection of menu's, to suit all tastes. Pricing reasonable. Always excellent food and service. Clean, tidy restaurant with mood lighting. Well recommended for couples and group parties.
Attentive service and food was good. We were a little disappointed in pudding, however the steaks and starters were excellent. Great selection of wine and good offers too.
Very authentic chilli and spice menu. Also liked the Great British menu which allows all members of our party to have a wide variety in choice of cuisine
Best Indian restaurant I've been to for a while, and believe you me I am a very fussy foodie! As also From Indian origin I know my curries
The meal was delicious and the staff friendly and efficient. The ambience was very nice, overall a lovely experience and one which we will definitely like again.
Lovely food and wonderful atmosphere. Menu varied, with something for the traditionalist and something new to try. Staff were very friendly, we will definitely come back again.
Went on a groupon and had great british menu food and service was excellent could fault at all would gladly recommend this restaurant and visit again
Food excellent. Quality of Rogan Josh up there with Ashas & Itihaas in City centre. Waitress really pleasant and helpfu, particularly with our daughters milk and egg allergies. Will be back!
We enjoyed our visit to the restaurant. The food was excellent and the restaurant was very comfortable and stylish. The staff were efficient but friendly. We will certainly go there again.
Very nice meal service very good if there is one complaint the room was cold. But overall very nice experience.I would certainly recommend very good standard
The food was excellent as was the service couldn't fault in any way will definitely be going back and would recommend to anyone thank you
Great food & service would definitely go back we had a great time and was made to feel very welcome, highly recommendable place for everyone
Fantastic food, and fabulous service. The cocktails were superb too. We enjoyed the biryani and the fish ajwaini tikka immensely.. Will definitely be there soon
We had an indian meal which was far too spicy and hot a meal we have regularly at our Indian Restaurant so was bitterley disappointed when it was impossibly hot. We did say this to the waitresses but they only said Oh well ours is not a sweet one!!!!!
Superb service, and a very nice restaurant. We outdoor have gone higher if it hadnt been for the fact that they had no duck, which i was hoping for
Had the English menu 3 course option. Good choice of dishes (although desserts could have been more adventurous). We received dishes in good time. Would return and recommend.
I really enjoyed my meal there! The staff were really nice and friendly, the food was great, had almost no problems at all! Definitely going to go back
