The Jam Tree Clapham’s spacious premises stand bold and proud down Clapham’s Old Town, moments from Clapham Common. Here, the sibling to Jam Tree’s other London outpost in Chelsea is spread out across two airy spaces and a sun-kissed garden. This is a firm favourite among a locals familiar with The Jam Tree’s unique offering of colonial-style international food (think Malaysian, South African, Canadian and Indian), extensive drinks lists (and drinks party packages). Ideal for private hire, you can even sign up for a Jam Tree cocktail masterclass!
The Jam Tree Clapham experience begins with an atmosphere hard to beat in London – a vibe that’s friendly and fun, reflected in the staff as well as the look and feel of this restaurant and bar along Old Town, an easy stroll from Clapham Common. Capacious enough for all appetites and proclivities, Jam Tree’s guests have three areas to choose from. In front there’s the bar where resident mixologists ply their delicious wares (ask for The Jam Tree’s cocktail recommendations) and ample space for a raucous dinner or a more intimate rendezvous. Moving towards the back there’s a light-filled second area with its own bar and a view of the kitchen where Jam Tree’s special colonial menu gets created. Finally, out back is Jam Tree’s hidden weapon: a huge tree-filled beer garden for al fresco eating and drinking when the weather cooperates.
As for the eating, Jam Tree Clapham has an interesting proposition up its chefs’ sleeves. Changed up seasonally, take in a classic Arabic shakshouka for breakfast or brunch, Malaysian sotong manis battered sticky squid or a pot of mussels swimming in a bath of lemongrass, ginger and coconut milk for dinner (perfect with something sparkling from the wine list), or a simple Brit classic come Sunday, with roasts aplenty being added to this cosmopolitan London restaurant’s remit. Besides great food, Jam Tree also offer cocktail masterclasses where you can learn how to make the jam-based cocktails that have made this Old Town cocktail bar and eatery’s name. It’s a popular way to get together to liquor up and learn, so book well in advance!
Great food and drinks offer, quicker than last time we were there. Group of 9, no issues with reservation, quick confirmation and reminder email, which I thought was a good touch. Friendly staff and superb garden area. It rained for a while, we were easily offered a nice large table indoors. We will definitely go back soon
Very pleasant surroundings, with friendly staff, and excellent service and the food was very good. A good choice on menu and wine list. Have been here 2 or 3 times before and will come again.
