About The King's Head
Dear diners, for bookings of 7 or more people please contact the restaurant directly. Thank you.
The King’s Head has graced the corner of Lordswood and Hagley Road in Birmingham’s Harborne for over a hundred years. With an impressive and respectful refit in 2007, this vintage British public house has been transformed into a very homely gastropub, offering fine, fresh and seasonal food cooked with love by head chef Dan Humphries and his creative team, who’ve designed a menu that pushes the boundaries with modernised British classics and continental delicacies served to diners in a spacious dining area that can accommodate up to 70 guests. Alongside a wide range of wine, beer, spirits and cocktails best enjoyed in the open plan lounge bar, those that are seeking to celebrate or dine privately should know that The King’s Head’s expansive premises house a number of spaces suitable for any sized group, from two to 200.

When General Manager Richard Perry embarked on the long process of refitting The King’s Head into a pub offering fine British and European food and drink, he was well aware of the significance, both historically and to the Harborne community, of this long-standing public house at the junction of Birmingham’s Hagley Road, Bearwood High Street and Lordswood Road. This handsome Victorian and Edwardian, two-storied mansion has been lovingly restored to some of its former glory complete with original tile work surrounding the ornate staircase originally installed in 1906 by architects Owen and Ward, and an historical mural on the terrace featuring the Albert ‘Bert’ Tudor, the pub’s longest-serving landlord those tenure was from 1921 to 1945. Head chef Dan Humphries has locally-sourced and seasonal produce delivered daily to his kitchen, ensuring that the wide variety of British and continental dishes that he and his team create are packed with flavour and goodness. The menu at The King’s Head is extensive, with light bites, a buffet menu, a refined a la carte offering, fixed price menus and a children’s menu. Classic mains line up beer-battered fish and chips with a homemade tartare sauce, blackened lemon and pea puree (that’s mushy peas to the layman – this is, after all, one of Birmingham’s finest gastropubs), and a delicious Butlers Secret mature Cheddar potato and red onion tart served with a Waldorf salad. Superfood salads with sprouting purple chia, black rice, fennel and pomegranate are ideal lighter options, while The King’s Head’s burgers are a famous among Harborne locals – the King’s Killer stack weighs in on the action with a 12-ounce beef burger, streaky smoked bacon, fried egg, cheese, and red onion rings. Importantly, because The King’s Head is a true independent rather than a chain pub, each customer is treated as an individual and greeted to a warm, friendly and homely welcome.
We were a party of 8, we found the food & the staff great. We had the various Sunday dinners, drinks and dessert. The price was very good for what we had. I would definitely come back.
We enjoyed our Sunday lunch at the Kings Head. The only disappointment was the vegetarian option of caramelised onion loaf which our daughter chose but said she wouldn't have it again. Hence five stars instead of six.
Food was amazing. We had such a good time. The staff were lovely. It's a cute little pub and they have a dj which was nice for a Friday night.
As always excellent service from the friendly staff especially Miguel. The food is always of a very high standard and this occasion was no exception. Will be back very soon!
Great atmosphere, great staff and the food and beverages were really great too.... we have already arranged to go back again soon and bring others with us too ☺
We booked a table, however upon arrival there were no car parking spaces, after waiting 10 minutes we were able to park and given our table immediately upon arrival. The service was good, however the food wasn't. One of fhe four meals was not cooked to order and the 'hand cut chips' which were an upgrade were nothing more than a standard frozen chip and very tasteless. The food is not worthy of the cost but the service received outweighed it, hence no complaint made.
The fish and chips with pea purée......fantastic!! Service was just as good as the food all round excellent. I'd say it's the best fish and chips in Birmingham
Very nice chips. I understand the chilli and rice was good but it needed something e tar like Chianti or something to mop up the sauce. The burgers were too salty. Wine was good. The first hot chocolate was nice and cold but the second one was nice and piping. A mix of all sorts really.
I have had many great meals here and the latest was no exception. In my opinion, the King's Head is by far the best Pub/restaurant in the area.
Good food. Going again! Good atmosphere too. Nice staff. Disability access and assistance if needed. Cannot think of any bad things to say here. Go see for yourself!
Great venue, prompt service at the bar, which hasn't always been the case. Attentive service at the table, great food, reasonably priced looking forward to my next visit.
Very friendly staff, food was great. Will certainly be going back. My friends really enjoyed the pleasant surroundings and all enjoyed it. Well done to all the staff.
Sunday roasts here at superb and the staff are incredibly helpful with knowledge of coeliac friendly food. They even made sure I had gf gravy :) very happy
Great food in a great atmosphere. Couldn't help but feel sorry for the waitress who had to cover the whole of the restaurant, looked rushed off her feet! Apart from that, all good!
Come here often for Sunday lunch which is always good however never been on a Saturday evening but it was still very good. The waiting staff are a credit to the restaurant. They always have a very friendly manner. Well done
A nice ambience, good food and service, very happy overall. Food quality and quantity was excellent and were looked after by a friendly and competent young lady
Good friendly atmosphere with nice food and even a late night bar afterwards for people to carry on drinking which is perfect.deffinetly reccomended place to go to
Good service, Very filling food, great cocktails. Shame no live music for a Friday night to liven up the atmosphere.Overall a very enjoyable night out with friends.
Very good. Service was a little slow at times but always polite and helpful. Food was tastey and portions generous. We planned to have dessert but were full after starter and main.
The food was excellent if a little overpriced however I have only rated it a 3 because the long wait to be served waiting for meals both main & sweet & was still waiting for a jug of water when we finished our main meals. Very disappointing . Wasn't even really busy .
Great food, location, atmosphere and service. Would definitely go again and will recommend to my friends. It was very clean. Very reasonable price for great food.
This is a great place food always warm and tasty can't complain, Sunday carvery is very good and well worth it and staff are always helpful

What a fantastic place not only at Christmas but all year round. Lovely food great atmosphere too. Friendly staff and great surroundings too. Very nice place.
we went for valentines night there was a great atmosphere and the food was first class and price was very resonable had a really nice night
We had an excellent sunday lunch, very friendly staff, quiet. The place is nice and clean and the kids love it as much as we do.
Excellent Sunday lunch.staff are competent and happy. Just booked Christmas lunch on Christmas day. Good value for money and a varied menu well worth a visit
very pleasant and you cannot fault the food.my only fault is if you are placed in the window seat it is very cold which ruins your eating experience otherwise very nice
Lovely food with very attentive and efficient staff. Good atmosphere and friendly ambience. The nightclub attached to the pub had a great atmosphere although the music wasn't really to our taste.
Food and service excellent, no faults in either of those areas. Only criticism was we found the seating a little uncomfortable. Would recommend though because first class quality food and service.
Nice food. Service a little slow, and not up to speed with topping up drinks etc.. Mocktails were delicious! No jugs of water apparently.. Considering its summer.. seems a little overlooked.
The menu did not state that the burger contained mayonnaise do it had to be sent back. We had eaten ours pretty much by time it came back. Food was expensive and nothing exciting. Dessert was good. Shame really as was looking forward to it but didn't live up to expectation
disappointed the menu on offer on the kings head website was not available when we arrived, I dont think the site has been updated for months. decent staff, food o.k. not many diners when we ate..7.00pm friday evening.
Service was great, always a lovely atmosphere, staff were very helpful re. special diet requirements. My partner's burger could have been warmer but, other than that, a very pleasant meal.
Excellent food and service. The atmosphere was a bit quiet for a Bank Holiday weekend but it was a really enjoyable experience. Will definitely recommend.
Everything was delightful! New menu didn't look promising but food was very good indeed & we were very well looked after. Will he going back!
Great Sunday lunch lots fresh veg and excellent friendly staff lovely atmosphere and outside looks great. Will be returning to try week menu soon 👋🏼

Nice food and atmosphere. Definitely would return. Night time entertainment is ideal for a group of friends with a large selection of drinks on offer.
Lovely meal and not too expensive. the burger was lovely and would happily return again. not noisy and they were also accommodating of a buggy which was with the group.

Friendly, polite, professional staff, with delicious reasonably priced food and I would highly recommend :) I have visited many times and have never been disappointed.
Good food, good company and efficient, happy staff - who needs more. Never had a bad meal at this place and always happy to return
