About The King's Head
Dear diners, for bookings of 7 or more people please contact the restaurant directly. Thank you.
The King’s Head has graced the corner of Lordswood and Hagley Road in Birmingham’s Harborne for over a hundred years. With an impressive and respectful refit in 2007, this vintage British public house has been transformed into a very homely gastropub, offering fine, fresh and seasonal food cooked with love by head chef Dan Humphries and his creative team, who’ve designed a menu that pushes the boundaries with modernised British classics and continental delicacies served to diners in a spacious dining area that can accommodate up to 70 guests. Alongside a wide range of wine, beer, spirits and cocktails best enjoyed in the open plan lounge bar, those that are seeking to celebrate or dine privately should know that The King’s Head’s expansive premises house a number of spaces suitable for any sized group, from two to 200.

When General Manager Richard Perry embarked on the long process of refitting The King’s Head into a pub offering fine British and European food and drink, he was well aware of the significance, both historically and to the Harborne community, of this long-standing public house at the junction of Birmingham’s Hagley Road, Bearwood High Street and Lordswood Road. This handsome Victorian and Edwardian, two-storied mansion has been lovingly restored to some of its former glory complete with original tile work surrounding the ornate staircase originally installed in 1906 by architects Owen and Ward, and an historical mural on the terrace featuring the Albert ‘Bert’ Tudor, the pub’s longest-serving landlord those tenure was from 1921 to 1945. Head chef Dan Humphries has locally-sourced and seasonal produce delivered daily to his kitchen, ensuring that the wide variety of British and continental dishes that he and his team create are packed with flavour and goodness. The menu at The King’s Head is extensive, with light bites, a buffet menu, a refined a la carte offering, fixed price menus and a children’s menu. Classic mains line up beer-battered fish and chips with a homemade tartare sauce, blackened lemon and pea puree (that’s mushy peas to the layman – this is, after all, one of Birmingham’s finest gastropubs), and a delicious Butlers Secret mature Cheddar potato and red onion tart served with a Waldorf salad. Superfood salads with sprouting purple chia, black rice, fennel and pomegranate are ideal lighter options, while The King’s Head’s burgers are a famous among Harborne locals – the King’s Killer stack weighs in on the action with a 12-ounce beef burger, streaky smoked bacon, fried egg, cheese, and red onion rings. Importantly, because The King’s Head is a true independent rather than a chain pub, each customer is treated as an individual and greeted to a warm, friendly and homely welcome.
Food was delicious as usual but service was poor! Had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks, restaurant was less than half full at this point on a Saturday night. Meals arrived with wrong sides, steak was well done when asked for rare. All rectified eventually by the manager after being told by our waiter that we would have to wait whilst he cleared another table and took someone else's order first! Manager was very professional sorted the problem straight away and gave us a free drink to apologise. Service has always been excellent here before so let's hope this was just a one off!
Great place to eat . Service always good . Wide choices to satisfy all tastes and ages . Nice atmosphere. Value for money . Never had a reason to complain only praise the team and of course the back room staff - the chefs ! 10 out of 10 . Highly recommended.
as it always is at the Kings Head the atmosphere was lovely - we did wait for over an hour for our food though which wouldn't have been a problem if we'd not been told we only had the table for 2 hours! However we were't rushed in the end as our table wasn't required and the food was excellent.
Similar to last year, The Kings Heed three course menu did not fail to impress. Staff were polite & helpful, evening providing cream as an extra for one of their deserts. The ambience never fails to impress, & the prices are great value for moreish food! Would definitely recommend!
Had a fabulous time today with my family. Beautiful Sunday roasts, friendly, helpful staff. Didn't feel rushed to leave our table, perfect. Will definitely be back soon and I'll bring my parents. My Mum will love the roasts, all most as good as hers - dare I say it!
The Kings Head has helpful staff & tasty meals at a reasonable price. What is there not to like. Enjoyed a fantastic Valentines meal. Have eaten at the Kings Head before, & had a similar experience. Would recommend to other people, & you will definitely not be disappointed.
Very clean and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and good with the children. Food was nice, we only ordered pasta so you can't get much wrong with that but prices were a bit high for what you get on the adult menu. Children's menu prices very reasonable.
Went for lunch with my mom at The Kings Head midweek. The place was quiet but had a few other patrons. We ordered from the market menu with had 50% off. Good selection from this menu. Good sized portions and the same goes for the sweets
A very quick and easy process to reserve a table at our favourite place. For some reason however I need to write a minimum of twenty five words here before I can submit this which has put a negative slant on the while experience. Shame!
A nice night, you can dress up too! Pleasant, helpful staff & good food. Comfortable surroundings. Keep up the good work. I would recommend The King's Head.
It took a while to be "greeted" by someone when we first arrived but we had a nice table and the waitress was very attentive. The two of us had the Seafood Linguine which was nice but wasn't very warm. The ambiance of the restaurant was good with nice decor. Worth a visit.
We come here on a regular basis and were very excited to see a new menu. The food was as good as ever. My starter could have been a main course it was so big! Looking forward to coming back to try everything else!
Food was excellent really tasty and well presented and decent portions. Had to wait for a long period for our desserts. Some of the Front of house staff a little slow to respond to requests but everyone very friendly. On the website it advertises a two and three course set menu which when asked for doesn't exist so false advertising to get people in.
Second visit to this place with my wife this time as a birthday treat, the food is really good, presented well and cooked perfectly. We both had a very pleasant evening, we felt well looked after but not pestered by the staff.
I had heard about the amazing Sunday Carvery so we were eager to try it and it was worth it!! Succulent meat cooked to perfection, well seasoned veg, huge Yorkshire pudding (which the kids loved), overall very large portions. I will definitely be going back. Happy Customers!
Amazing place, amazing food. Sunday lunch is the best! We go every time we come to visit in Birmingham. I would totally recommend it to everyone. If you haven't been you have no idea what you have been missing!
The food we had was splendid. We both had the lamb (it being Easter Sunday) which was delicious and tender. The accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection and portions were ample. Thoroughly recommend it for Sunday lun h.
Sat down at 7-45 at 8 we were told chef was finishing early so needed to order quickly, we didn't get the option of a pudding !! Food was reasonable at a good price, beer (fosters) had a funny taste but overall an average evening unlike my previous visits where service, food and drinks were much better.
Food was very tasty and freshly cooked. The main menu could more interesting with a few more choices. Regularly eating at the Kings Head means the menu soon becomes predictable. (This applies to many restaurants) The staff are always friendly and helpful. value for money.
Lovely food . Excellent Sunday roast .Good service staff very polite and professional and table service very good . Food came in a timely manner. The only think that let us down was the choice of lager . Very poor choice of decent beer .
