The Last Days of The Raj

The Last Days of the Raj were some years past – Indian independence was 60 years or so ago – and, indeed, The Last Days of the Raj restaurant is a long way from India itself, but they’re putting up a more than decent effort from their location in Dinnington Village. Their menu is inspired by the flavours of India and Bangladesh, and the whole gamut of spices and ingredients that are so entailed, from starters fresh from the tandoor ovens or a range of curries that takes in both the classics of the genre and a few house signatures thrown in for good measure. The Last Days of the Raj were pretty spectacular – what with the splitting of one of the largest colonies in the world into several different countries – and, while it might be a little bit far-fetched to say that The Last Days of the Raj restaurant is as spectacular as that, they are pretty impressive in their own chosen field. Arthur Khan began the restaurant back in 1984, and while they didn’t open until 2015 in Dinnington Village, they have already been awarded with the Best Newcomer award at the British Curry Awards. A restaurant doesn’t become as well-regarded as The Last Days of the Raj in Dinnington Village without a few special things on the menu. Alongside the classic curries and tandoori dishes, there are plenty of house signatures to get your teeth into. Seafood fans will try the monkfish jalfrezi or the Goan coconut Machli, with tamarind and chilli, whereas spice fiends will go straight for the Jhal Jhool Duck, with an aromatic, Madras-strength sauce, or the Murgh Naga, with chicken and the eponymous Bangladeshi chillies. Vegetarians are well catered for too – go for the Maharajah’s Spiced Vegetable Biryani – and as such, something for the whole party can be found at The Last Days of the Raj in Dinnington Village.
