Restaurants focusing on Southern US cuisine are hard to come by in this part of London, districts dominated by Italian trattoria, upscale Mediterranean joints and the new wave of British gastropubs. Here in upmarket Marylebone, The Lockhart is proudly flying the Stars & Bars from it’s retro-styled redoubt along Seymour Place, thanks to the down-home culinary flair of restaurateur and head chef Brad McDonald, whose stints in Brooklyn, New York and passion for Southern American cuisine are evident in every aroma, bite, and bellylaugh. But no rack of smoked Jacob’s Ladder short ribs or plate of Southern fried chicken would be complete without a tipple, and so The Lockhart has generously laid on a selection of fine American wines and bourbon whiskies alongside a few south-of-the-border cousins that go by the names tequila and mezcal.
Group of 3 - All of us ordered and loved the chicken and the service was pleasant! Would definitely want to re-visit in future. ;D
The service was very nice and friendly. Great fried chicken with coleslaw. The rice, crab and oysters dish was disappointing - surprisingly briny and somewhat off-balance. The menu lacks some of the classic southern dishes - where are the mac'n cheese? the beef brisket or pulled pork? the pecan pie? I will come back for the fried chicken though.
The food on offer was good although the menu is quite limited with no kids menu (should be mentioned upon reservation when i said we were coming with 2 kids). The staff were very lovely albeit the service was slow. The restaurant itself is nice and airy with a good atmopshere
